Year 9 City Cite Project

Every year our Year 9 students are involved in the City Cite project where they spend six days in the Melbourne CBD. The experience starts in the previous week where students take part in the Great Melbourne Race.  In their assigned group students spend the day finding key locations and familiarising themselves with the city. The following week they work on their City Cite project with their team, exploring an issue that is affecting Melbourne. They follow an inquiry process by posing a question, researching and undertaking surveys and interviews, analysing their data and forming conclusions.  There are guest speakers and excursions which really broaden their perspective on social and ethical issues in our city.  The project culminates in a parent presentation evening where teams explain what they have learnt and how their thinking had changed through their experience.  Students said that they learnt about teamwork, navigation, planning schedules without a teacher and how lucky we are to live in Melbourne.  Thank you to our Year 9 students for showing maturity, respect, commitment and compassion throughout the project.  Thank you to our amazing teachers at Auburn High School for your professionalism, and for always just going that extra bit.  Finally, thank you Emily Zaccaria for coordinating and leading this project and Edon Germano who filmed the Year 9 students throughout the week and created the amazing City Cite video.

Year 10 and 11 Study Success Day

Our popular Study Success Seminar Day for Year 10 and 11 students was held on Thursday 3 March.  The purpose of the day was to support our senior students in their transition to VCE/IB and learn practical strategies to enable them to be successful in their studies and in life beyond school.  Students undertook a Careers/Futures session and had a choice of various sessions to choose from such as “Strategies to manage your time effectively and avoid procrastination”, “Tips from the examiners” and wellbeing focus sessions such as “Looking after ourselves” and “Managing expectations and reflecting on our mindset”.  It was a highly successful day, with both staff and students getting to know each other better and working together on how to best support our students to meet their aspirations.  Thank you to all staff who presented and assisted in the workshops and practical activities program, and a big thank you to Josh Patrick, Ella Price, Craig McPherson, and Ross Pritchard for organising the day.

International Women’s Day

Tuesday 8th March was International Women's Day, and this year the focus for the day was #BreakTheBias.  This focuses on a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.  A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.  A world where difference is valued and celebrated.  Together we can forge women's equality.  Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.  This aligns well with our school values of Diversity and Respect.  There were a number of activities and speakers addressing the theme of stereotypes that students could participate in.

2021 Year 12 Destination data

Congratulations to all our Year 12 students on attaining an offer to pursue tertiary study.  I would like to thank all their teachers and in particular our Careers Pathways and Transition Manger, Robyn Boardman, for all her work in assisting students in their post-secondary choices.  Below are some graphs with our student’s destination data:
