EAL

English as an Additional Language

Hello, Doncaster Primary School Community.

My name is Sarah Guscott, and I am an English as an Additional Language (EAL) specialist teacher. This term, I have been working with small groups of students to help them improve in their English Language Learning.

Students have learnt chants and songs such as ‘Diddle, Diddle Dumpling,’ and ‘One Two Buckle my Shoe’ and looked at the rhythm and beat of language. Students have described clothes, described characters and described themselves. Students have made posters and for some of them, this would be the first time they have experienced making posters. Students have read and listened to books and talked more about how we know whether books are fiction or non-fiction. We have found key words and ideas, talked about what happened in the books we’ve read and responded to the books we’ve read through different activities.

Have a look at some of our learning!
