2022  Interschool Sports,

Sports Academy & Avenues Exchange

Senior Interschool Sport

The beginning of the new school year saw the long-awaited return of Interschool Sport. Our students filled out and overflowed the team positions available and we are sorry for anyone that missed out in Term 1. Our Year 11 and 12 students eagerly took up their Round Robin challenges in just the second week of term and while our senior teams did not progress through to the following stages, our students can be proud of their efforts to have a go and have fun. A particular highlight was at the Dandenong Volleyball Stadium where Chelt.Sec Boys B-Team took on Chelt.Sec Boys A-Team in an epic thriller.

Thanks to Mr Mathews for the following Cricket report...

The Senior Boys Cricket team participated in the District Round Robin at Le Page Park on Friday 11th February.

Game one was against Melbourne High who elected to have a bowl first. We struggled to build a partnership off our allocated 9 overs and only managed to scrape to just over 50. Jackson O'M. looked good until run out. Melbourne's opening batters came out with aggressive intent and smacked our bowlers to all parts of the field. We did manage to pick up three wickets but we could not subdue the run rate. So a loss to start with.

In the second game against Yavneh, we reversed the batting order so that everyone got a hit. Once again we struggled to get going with only Owen C. managing to score a few. After setting some interesting fields throughout Yavneh’s innings, they managed to chase well. It all came down to them needing 3 runs off the last ball, which they got leaving a few red faces on our side of the field.

The last game was against Elwood and this time the batters were able to put a score on the board. Elwood struggled with the bat and we managed to win this game fairly easily.

An enjoyable day was had by all, even if we didn’t play quite as well as we would have liked to.

Thanks to the boys who ran the scorebook and congratulations to all participants who represented the school with great sportsmanship.

Intermediate Interschool Sport

Intermediate Sport returned in week 3 and again our students were eagerly ready to get out into the great outdoors to enjoy time with friends and some healthy competition. Congratulations to our Chelt Softball team who have qualified for the Southern Metro Finals in May and to our Boys Cricket team who will play Southern Metro Finals at Lloyd

Park in October.

Thanks to Mr. Knox for the following Boys Volleyball report...

We entered two teams into the Intermediate Volleyball round-robin held at Dandenong Basketball Stadium. The “A” team played some exceptional volleyball against some very talented teams in Melbourne High and Prahran High School. There was plenty of highlight plays and great teamwork that allowed us to really compete throughout the day. We were able to match it against both schools, pinching a set and pushing towards a 3rd and final set in the respective matches. Unfortunately, a few lapses in concentration were our undoing, costing us key points at vital moments. We finished 3rd overall in division one, a valiant achievement.

The “B” team had very little volleyball experience going into the tournament, but you could barely notice. The boys were exceptional in their teamwork and support of each other. There were plenty of teachable moments, where the boys took with great fortitude. We managed to finish 2nd overall in the second division. A great outcome.

Thank You Chelt Community

Our thanks go to Rebecca and Adrian Feilden whose knowledge and support at softball was greatly appreciated by staff and students, we hope you can join us in the finals.

Thank you to Le Page Cricket Club and our Chelt families Jenny Aldridge and Justin Harris who came along to support our cricket team and open up the facilities.

Thanks to the Cricket boys, who helped Mrs. H look for her lost car keys.

Netball and Basketball Academy

The beginning of the 2022 Academy season is fast approaching, our teams are eager to meet their coaches and get on the court for fun and fitness. Skills will be tested and improved upon as we set about establishing training needs and team formation. Uniforms have been ordered and we can't wait to see our Academy students in the Chelt Colours.

Avenues Exchange

Preparations are underway for the 3rd attempt at the 56th Exchange. We will be working particularly hard to reduce costs as much as possible, so as not to impact our squad members and families.

Some teams are entering the final squad selection process and students are encouraged to personally communicate with their coaches; displaying school values is a critical selection criterion, including responsibility for ourselves.

Please follow the tryout training schedule for Term 1 and communicate with event coaches with any absences to training.

Squad selection will be completed by the end of Term 1.
