Sustainability @ NPS

Nude Food

Over the past few weeks the grade 4-5-6 students have been looking at the way water run off can carry litter into our waterways. Although NPS has great waste sorting systems with different bins for soft plastics, recycling, landfill and compost, the teachers and students have still been finding soft plastic wrappers in our school yard. Invariably, they end up in our waterway or impacting the farm animals in surrounding properties.

The 4-5-6 students have decided that our school needs to encourage students to bring 'nude food' to school for their snacks and lunches. The sustainability leaders have decided that NPS will have nude food days; one in week 8 on Friday 25 March, one in week 9 on Thursday 31 March and one in week 10 on Wednesday 6 April. We acknowledge that many of you already make great efforts to send lunchboxes without wrappers and packaging. We also understand that parents are busy but we have some tips to make it easier with ideas for simple nude food. The sustainability leaders  might see which class has the best nude food lunchboxes.

Nude food lunch box tips:

The sustainability leaders have run classes for the students from prep to grade 6, teaching them about nude food and how they can be involved in making choices to reduce wrappers. Here are some photos of Miranda, Jett, Lillian and Flynn teaching the grade 4-5-6s about nude food.

Biodiversity Learning Hub

We will soon be getting some plants for our diversity learning hub which we will be able to plant during autumn. You might even see some nest boxes appearing over the next few weeks. Keep watching this space!
