Awesome Things in AH This Term

We have been doing lots of awesome things in AH this term! Here is a peak at some things we have been doing in reading, writing, maths and guided play!

In guided play, we have been exploring lots of concepts to help us make connections with each other. We have been exploring ideas such as how to say no to someone, making good learning choices, whole body listening, how to read other people's body language and how to include people in our play.

In reading, we have been looking at some strategies to help us solve unknown words such as stretchy snake (stretch out the sounds) chunky monkey (chunking up the sounds) and eagle eye (where we think about words we might see in our story as well as looking at the pictures to give us clues about unknown words.

In writing, we have been learning about recounts. Before we write our recounts, we have been doing a language experience which we then write about. So far we have played a game that we have then written about, played with the Everblocks (thanks OSHC!), made cubbies for our mini maths hippos and tried some coding on the laptops. These experiences have really helped us write!

In maths, we have been looking at counting and collecting data. We have been trying to have one lesson outside where we play some games whilst practicing our skip counting. We have played finska, corn hole and some throwing games to help us practice our skip counting In the classroom we have been looking at some real life maths (like decorating donuts!) to help us practice counting. We have also been collecting daily fruit snack data and this week we are looking at how we are getting to school.
