Let's start with a few words of gratitude from a parent...

The positive vibe at CSPS is evident from the minute the kids are dropped off in the morning, to the time I pick them up again with big smiles on their faces. The kids are constantly given positive reinforcement when they display one of the 4 school values, and the school communicates with me to let me know when that happens so I can continue this on at home.

Words cannot express the shock of being in Remote Learning 6.0. Some staff are thinking of purchasing me a t-shirt stating 'Remote Learning denier'. I, like so many others, are in disbelief. I am human just like you; with a family I cannot see, with events that keep getting cancelled or postponed (Happy 50th Mr Corcoran) and leading a school in an existence that even as adults we find it hard to comprehend. I constantly reflect on how our children must be feeling and how they are trying to make sense of this crazy new world we live in. To keep me sane and healthy, here are a few simple things that are helping me get through the day:

Gratitude journal (I'm using an app called Morning!)
Staying active (thank goodness for the simplicity of walking/running)
Watching what I eat and drink (it is so easy to fall into bad habits)
Focus on what I do have control over (not what I don't)

If you need anything, please call out. Big or small, there is no problem we cannot solve together. Please hug your children for me There are 320 IOU hugs out there that I am going to call upon as soon as possible.

Friday 6th August celebrated Principal's Day. But every day is Principal day!!!! We get to lead an incredible school with amazing families with gorgeous kids. We get to work with dedicated staff and be support by an education system that is determined to make a positive difference. We get to see smiles, hear laughter and most importantly watch kids grow into wonderful human beings. We have the best job in the world. Thanks for all the kind well wishes, Seesaw posts, padlet entrie and student gifts and drawings.

Have you read your Child's Semester 1 report?

Semester reports and Learning Tasks are released via Compass. Reports indicate that less than 50% of the reports have been accessed and read. Please see the link to the instructions to access your child's report. If you have any questions about the report or Learning Task, please contact your classroom teacher by email.

Child Safety, Reportable Conduct and Duty of Care in Remote Online Learning Environments

Where a school is not providing face to face supervision, including where students are learning remotely rather than on school grounds, the school is not responsible for students’ general safety at home or elsewhere. Having said this, Principals and school staff must still:

identify risks which are reasonably foreseeable for students who are learning at home
take reasonable steps which are in the school’s control to prevent reasonably foreseeable harm to students.

For example, if a school knows that a student learning remotely is affected by a disability or mental health condition, particularly a condition that might be exacerbated by being alone at home, or has other vulnerabilities (for example family violence or substance abuse), the school must take reasonable steps to address those risks, which may include offering additional supports and ensuring students can access their learning outside the home, where appropriate.

Staff should continue to follow the school’s Child Safety Code of Conduct and maintain appropriate boundaries, including only using work phones/email addresses to contact students, maintaining appropriate notes and records, contacting students during school hours and providing community emergency numbers (such as Kids Help Line) to students and families for out of hours support.
