JRC (Junior Resource Centre) News

Here we go again!  Hopefully this lockdown will be a short one, but I thought I'd take this opportunity to go over all of the services that we provide remotely to keep you connected with all your information needs.

Firstly though, all loans from our physical collection can be returned when we come back to school.  We have turned our automated overdue email system off, but if you have received an email in the past couple of days please ignore.  If you have any library issues, please get in touch with Ms Michelle Snooks either by email or Teams -  msnooks@fhs.vic.edu.au

Most of our library services can be accessed from our catalogue, Smartsuite.

  • To access: Compass > star menu > Smartsuite (logon with your Compass details)
  • ePlatform, our digital library, has over 1200 eBooks and 700 audiobooks that can be accessed remotely.  You can access from the top menu on Smartsuite and login with your Compass details.  Loans are for two weeks, then will return automatically.
  • English Resources: The VCE & MS English and Reading Program pages have lots of great resources to help with English.  Both pages will give you access to films, audiobooks, eBooks and study guides for all English texts being studied.  Access from the buttons on the Smartsuite homepage.
  • AV from home: during remote learning teachers may share educational videos with students from either Smartsuite or Clickview (our other AV library).  Teachers will send students a share link - when students click on the link they will be prompted to login and then the video will play.
  • To access Smartsuite videos: logon with Compass details.
  • To access Clickview videos, students must logon with their EduPass details.  These can be accessed from their Reports tab in Compass, under EduPass Information.
  • If you have any problems accessing videos, please email or contact me on Teams and I will help you fix the problem.  Students can also access programs by logging onto either platform directly and searching for content.
  • Researching from home:  remember that when you do a search in Smartsuite you are also searching our World Book Encyclopedia and LinksPlus databases, which can both be accessed remotely.  Simply click on the tabs at the top of the search box to access the different results.  We also have access to ECHO (Current Issues database), FUSE (Education Department database), and a Referencing Generator via the Databases box on the Smartsuite homepage.

See you back at school soon!

An online search for a book your child might like to read is pretty easy.  Try searching for some of the following with your child:

· My child liked reading (insert title) what else might they like?

· Books similar to (insert title)

· Books written by (insert author)

· Top books for young adults
