Senior Production – The Bald Prima Donna

As we sit once again in our homes and pivot to remote learning, it is nice to reflect on what we were able to achieve in the first week of term in the Performing Arts department.

On Wednesday 14 July, the Senior Production, The Bald Prima Donna by Eugene Lonesco was performed under the COVID requirements in our VPAC Theatre.

The Senior Production is known as the “antiplay”. A show based in Theatre of the Absurd, it is designed to make your audience think the story is going one way and then it goes in a completely different direction. Theatre of the Absurd is designed to make the audience question what they know about theatre. A challenging show for the actors and a series of nonsense for the audience, it had the audience questioning: is it really that way or is it this way?

To the tremendous actors who as a small team of six worked with a 70-page script and battled through not one but two lockdowns to complete the show, congratulations on a wonderful show. Charlie, Isabella (Kilbreda College), Benjamin, Zachary, Noah, Amy (Mentone Girls Grammar School).

Shows like this don’t happen on their own, with thanks to our student crew who worked on all areas of the backstage to put the show together. Byron (Directing), Brandon (Stage Managing) Luke (Lighting), Stefano (Composing/Sound), Liam and Anthony (Set and Props Managing), Oscar (Front of House Management).

To Mr Joshua Romeo, Ms Dee O’Neil, Ms Maryanne Stephaniw and Ms Kate Brierty for all the support and work to put the show together.

A big thank you to Kilbreda College and Mentone Girls Grammar school for the collaboration and work with female actors.

The Performing Arts has been incredibly challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic and we are so thankful for the moments we do get onstage and we do hope our Junior Production is in rehearsal mode soon.

To the St Bede’s College community, we thank you for returning to Theatre and the ongoing support, we have missed you all!
