Debating

House Debating

Congratulations Bruce!

House Debating Champions.

The event was held virtually and the senior school and middle school debates were successfully completed via zoom. 32 students were directly involved in the two British Parliamentary style debates, with four teams competing simultaneously, with the ability to interrupt other speakers and only an hour to prepare. Well done to the Heads of House, House Debating Captains, Mr. McDonald and Ms Beal for all their work and preparation in making this event a success.

Bruce were crowned overall winners, winning the senior school debate

(Topic: Should good always triumph over evil in children’s entertainment).

While Mather came second overall but won the middle school debate. Bruce snatched second in this debate which meant they won more overall points.

(Topic: Should schools be banned from giving homework

Finally, well done to the Heads of House, House Debating Captains, Mr. McDonald and Ms Beal for all their work and preparation in making this event a success.

Achievements

Huntingtower has also had some amazing news from our students competing in the DAV debating and public speaking competitions. Five Huntingtower teams have earned places in the Octo-Finals of the DAV Schools Competition (the largest competition of its type in the world). To have five of our teams make it through to the last 16 is an incredible achievement!

Not only is this year one of the best finals outcomes for Huntingtower in its debating history, but for any school to get five teams through to this stage of such a long and competitive competition is extremely rare. These oct-final debates took place last week online, we are extremely proud of all our debaters for their amazing effort and determination.

What amazing success from all the students who were involved - they’ve done a truly outstanding job. Thanks to the debating coaches and staff who helped out, these phenomenal results are a testament to the dedicated students and teachers who represent Huntingtower.

Well done to everyone!
