Principal's Report

Dear Parents & Families,

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Matthew Hanns, one of our past students, who has been selected to participate in the Junior Science Olympiad Spring School this year. Matthew, who attends GSSC, has been part of the training squad since last year. He now joins 24 other students across Australia in the training program preparing for the International Junior Science Olympiad in December. The virtual course will provide advanced learning for the students across the sciences, including biology, chemistry, and physics.

REMOTE & FLEXIBLE LEARNING

We received notice today that Remote and Flexible Learning will continue until the holidays. Although we would much prefer to have all our students here with us onsite, it is fantastic to see the quality remote learning program being carried out on a daily basis. The way we are currently working is very different to what our normal practice looks like! I am so proud of the staff and how they are continuing to add new skills to their teaching repertoire.

Staff are working from home, running Google Meets, monitoring, and responding to students, preparing lessons, correcting work and contacting families. Throughout the week teachers are also busily preparing the following week's learning. They are working onsite at times on the supervision roster as well.

Equally too, life is different for families, and we are so appreciative of the way parents are doing an extraordinary job of supporting their children whilst at the same time being able to meet their own work commitments. This community can be extremely proud of the way the parents and staff are working in an authentic partnership to ensure continuity of learning.

As always in these uncertain times, we are here to support you and your family. We love seeing photos of what our students are up to during their time in remote learning. Please send these through to our school email address and we can share these on our newsletter

There are always staff members onsite available each day to answer questions, clarify information or support you in any way.

 - For single parents/ carers, the authorised worker must be working outside the home

in order for their children to be eligible for on-site provision at school.

This may apply to students enrolled in specialist schools and students with a disability enrolled in mainstream schools.

AUTHORISED WORKER PERMITS FOR ON-SITE SUPERVISION

Parents and carers will only be able to request on-site supervision for their child/ren  in Category A if they hold a permit as an authorised worker. Schools should make the updated on-site attendance form available to parents/carers who require on-site learning for their child/ren.

A copy of a permit/s must  be submitted  as soon  as practicable  after issuance  for those seeking Category A on-site supervision.  A permit is not required for accessing on site supervision under Category B.

UNWELL STUDENTS

If students have any cold like symptoms they are required to stay at home until well.

Enjoy your weekend,

Regards Heather
