Food Tech-Biggest Morning Tea
Across semester one as a student in year 9, I have been able to take part in the food tech elective of Around The World In Tasty Ways. Across the semester, we have come together to make different foods each week from many different cultures such as Italian, Greek, French, Indian and much more. After making two dishes from a specific cuisine, we would move onto a different country’s cuisine for the next two weeks of cooking. For each cuisine we made one sweet item, which was generally a dessert, and one savoury item. We got at look into how different cultures make the same kind of food completely differently. The main one we looked at was curry where we got to make and taste both an Indian and a Thai variation.
On top of that, all the students taking the elective were involved in two larger cooks where we prepared food for a larger audience. The first time we did this was to serve the teachers for the biggest morning tea in week 6 of term 2 where we were introduced to preparing large servings of food to provide to other people. We then did this again in week 9 of term 2 where we were doing a similar thing, yet this time we were preparing food for a bake sale where we would serve the entire student base.
In summary this has been a wonderful experience to be a part of and I have learnt a whole lot being a part of this. There is no doubt in my mind that if the opportunity arose that I would retake this whole journey again.
