– Year 11 Lakeview Students

On the 14th of July, the students in 9A had the pleasure of hearing from two former Brookside College students who are currently completing Year 11 with Lakeview Senior College. The students discussed their experiences at their school and the transition from Year 9 to 10. As a large majority of the Brookside cohort tend to enrol at Lakeview, hearing from fellow students provided them with useful insight into the next few years of schooling. This helped make the session relatable, encouraging the class to engage and resonate with the former students.

The Year 9 students showed their interest by asking a range of different questions regarding the senior school experience. The questions ranged from their personal experiences at the school, how many students and classes there are, and to more serious topics such as disciplinary action and academic expectations. The students from Lakeview spoke about several topics, such as the club activities available, excursions, interschool sports and even canteen options. As many students tend to experience anxiety moving into their senior school, the importance of mental health was also discussed with a wellbeing team available to the students.

They also emphasised the significance of academic independence by choosing their pathways towards VCAL or VCE and discussed how the students’ subject selection should highlight what they want to pursue regardless of their peers’ choices.
