Primary Athletics

On Monday 16th August, our F-6 students arrived at school in their house colours ready for a huge day of athletics at Cooma. In preparation for the day, the students had been practicing the skills and techniques involved with each event.

Excitement began to build as students headed to their favourite activities, where great skills were displayed in events such as javelin, high jump, long jump, sprints, discus and more!  Throughout the day students displayed great acts of kindness and sportsmanship as they cheered each other on and helped each other practice in-between events.

As the day concluded for our F-2 students, our Years 3-6 students began getting their teams together for the biggest event of the day, the relay! The students lined the 100m straight to cheer their house mates, the cheering and excitement overpowered the starting gun as the students took off racing. The relay was a great way to end a huge day of participation.

Congratulations to all the students to participated and displayed great sportsmanship. Overall, the day was a great success.

Years 3-6 Waranga Athletics

On Thursday 19th August, our Years 3-6 students had another huge day of athletics, this time instead of wearing our house colours they came to school in their sports uniform ready to compete against other schools in the district. The students were separated into age groups with Kyabram P-12 College, Tongala Primary and Stanhope Primary.

It was a great day for students to not only compete in athletics events but meet students from other schools. Students who won overall in their events are able to compete at the next level in Bendigo. We had many students win their heats and also progress onto the next level.

The participation on the day was great. Congratulations to all students for giving everything a go and supporting each other. Also congratulations to Laura Stone, Isla Hallett, Ethan Greiner and Aidan Greiner for winning overall age champions in their age group.

Secondary Athletics

On Friday the 20th our Years 7-12 students, similarly to F-6, arrived at school in their house colours eager to head out to Cooma and begin our 2021 Athletics Carnival.

The day began with the 1500m race. Many students bravely took the opportunity to participate in this five lap race to win valuable points for their house. Shortly after, a shower of rain came down, making everyone nervous about the weather. After around a minute of showers the rain was gone and we survived the rest of the day without any rain!

After the opening running events, students scattered to events where their age groups were competing, these events included shot-put, discuss, javelin, high jump, long jump and more! All throughout the day there were plenty of opportunities for students who weren’t overly keen on competing in events, were given the opportunity to complete a scavenger hunt, this sheet included questions relating to staff, students and the school and was a great way to keep everyone busy and running around in the cold weather!

The houses were chasing each other for points all day, but in the end Delany took home the trophy after a fantastic day of participation. After missing out on athletics in 2020, it was great to see such enthusiasm and support from our Year 12 leaders along with all students showing great sportsmanship and resilience throughout the day. The final scores for the day were:

Delany - 1118

Augustine - 1058

Brigidine - 1042
