Principal's Update

Lisa Vinnicombe

I am delighted to address you as the new principal of John Fawkner College and am very much looking forward to our shared return to school from a long period of lockdowns and uncertainty. The strength of a school is in its community and as we return from remote schooling to being together again on campus, we can collectively embrace all the positives that come with being on site. The JFC community is rich and diverse, and I am excited to join you as incoming principal.

I began as an English teacher and spent many years in classrooms in rural and regional Victoria and far north Queensland, before coming to work in Melbourne some years ago. My passion for teaching English stemmed from a lifelong love of reading and writing, which very quickly extended to a commitment to fostering that enjoyment in young people. I worked across schools teaching students from years 7 through 12 before moving towards whole school leadership some years ago.

As a school leader, I am wholly committed to ensuring that all students have equal access to opportunities that will allow them to excel in their chosen fields and extend themselves. I encourage students to aim high and grab hold of opportunities to try new things and celebrate their successes and learn from experiences. I value the input of families into our school community and encourage parents and families to become involved in their child’s education as much as possible.

We have some ground to make up after extensive lockdowns and I urge students and families to make extra efforts with regular attendance and commitment to school for the last few weeks of the year. As I walked around the school on my first day and met a range of students and staff, I could feel an energy in the air, a sense of friendliness and belonging, and I very quickly felt welcome. I know this will continue as I get to know more students and families.

I am looking forward to working with the JFC community for the remainder of 2021 and beyond.

Regards

Dr Lisa Vinnicombe
