IEEA IAP in Busan, Korea at LMCE 2019 Conference

Dr Lena Low, Executive Director Corporate & Assessor Divisions from The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) presented as an invited speaker on the IEEA Surveyor Training Programme in her role as ISQua expert; IEEA Council member and ACHS Executive Director at the LMCE 2019 Conference in Busan. 

 

Dr Low’s session was delivered as part of Symposium 10 “Surveyor Training Programme: Maintaining consistency in an on-site inspection of clinical laboratories is of vital importance as the results of the inspection may affect reimbursement fees in Korea. In this session, the current status of surveyor training programs of ISQua, KOIHA, and LMF will be introduced and perspective in LMF will be discussed.”    The session was chaired by Professor Dr Myung-Hyun Nam, Korea University College of Medicine, Korea and Professor Moon-Woo Seong, Seoul National University College of Medicine, Korea.

 

Dr Low’s presentation titled “Accreditation of Surveyor Training Programme by IEEA” covered:

  • Introduction of ISQua, its vision, membership programme, education offerings, events/management options and networking opportunities
  • IEEA and its three International Accreditation Programmes
  • Focus on IEEA Surveyor Training Programme (STP), the structure of the 5 Standards, four-point rating scale and requirements for accreditation to the IEEA STP
  • Case study on the implementation of the IEEA Surveyor Training Programme by ACHS

Two other co-presenters at Dr Low’s session included:

  • Ms Hyun Ji Baek from Korea Institute for Healthcare Accreditation (KOIHA) on “Management and education for surveyors in KOIHA” where she announced their recent IEEA accreditation of their Surveyor Training Program and their next goal of IEEA accreditation of KOIHA as an accreditation agency.
  • Professor Jihyang Lim MD, PhD, Education Division Director, Laboratory Medicine Foundation (LMF) who presented the “Introduction of Inspector training program by Laboratory Medicine Foundation”. Professor Lim spoke on preparations by LMF for undergoing IEEA accreditation of their Inspector training program.

Professor Gye Cheol Kwon, MD, PhD - Chairman of the Organizing Committee of LMCE 2019 and CEO Korean Society for Laboratory Medicine, declared the conference a success with a record attendance of about 2,000 delegates from 33 countries; 86 Exhibitors and 130 Exhibition Booths and 265 Posters.  At the closing ceremony, Professor Kwon stated the conference had achieved its objective of “Laboratory Medicine: Bridging Innovation to Patients” and hoped it had provided opportunities to learn and share developments in Laboratory Medicine for all conference attendees.
