F-4 Community News

The 3/4 Community have had a focus on day and night during Inquiry this term. Over the past week, students have worked in pairs to create a diorama and poster that demonstrates their learning on the relationship between the sun, moon and earth, what causes day and night and how the earth rotates. These will be on show at our F-4 assembly which will be held in the Brigidine Centre today at 12.30pm.
The 3/4s are looking forward to camp coming up in Week 3 of Term 4. We have some very exciting campers heading to Billabong Ranch in Echuca for a two night stay.
The 1/2 community have been loving working together with the new lego. They have been using it to build their teamwork skills, communicating with others and following instructions. They have been using their imagination to build their own creations.
Over the term, Foundation students went to Woolworths to learn about healthy food selection and how this impacts on our bodies. All students came back with a goodie bag to share with their families. This is a great initiative by Woolworths. Thank you Kyabram Woolworths for this experience.
Students then created human bodies showing the parts of the body, healthy eating and how to be sunsmart.

Term 3: Pragmatics and Social skills - (From Vic Curriculum Personal & Social Capabilities)
Activity 9 focus: Describe ways of making and keeping friends, including how actions and words can help or hurt others.
Check out the following youtube clip with your child.

Follow the guided questions. Discuss whether there are times when this has happened to them, how did they feel/ how did their friends respond? What could they do so they are more respectful next time?
The movie “Inside Out” is an excellent one to watch with your child. It looks closely at emotions and what we might need to do to get along with others. It’s a great social skills movie to review with your child.
Activity 10 focus: Identifying strengths and skills in others, acknowledging and giving praise.
Go through your child’s school photo. Ask them to name each child and say something positive about each child. It could be about their hobbies, personality, looks, family or something they’ve done.
With your child write ten different ways of praising someone on a poster or a set of cards.
For example: Hey that was great! I really liked the way you…. You’re really good at that! Good job, well done, super mate etc.
Practise saying these phrases so they are genuine and discuss when you might use them at home and at school.
Ask your child to use a different form of praise from the poster to a different person everyday. When they get home from school ask them to report on their use of praise and what sort of response they got from the other person.
Don’t forget to reward them daily (verbally) or at the end of each week (with a favourite activity) for regularly praising and considering others feelings.
