A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Hi Everyone,

Clothing;

The weather has turned chilly in the mornings now that autumn is here, many students are wearing coats and jumpers. Can parents and carers please make sure that all items are clearly marked with students names. Staff do their best to keep track of clothing but as the day warms up clothing can be discarded by students and if it is not named we have terrible trouble locating it. There is a hamper with lost property in the foyer so if you have lost anything please check it out.

Birthday Celebrations:

2019 is the 30th anniversary of our school being on our current site in Victoria Rd. We have decided this milestone event needs to be celebrated so we are having a party!! Can you please mark Saturday 3rd of August on your calendar? On that day we will be opening the school to past and present students and staff. Our beautiful school and playgrounds will be on show and there will be birthday cake. This would also be a great opportunity for our students to bring interested extended family members to have a look at where they come to school.

On the Friday prior we will be having a birthday party with the current school students, we have already booked a disco and there will be party food and fun for the whole day. On this day we will not be inviting anyone else to attend.

Student Behaviour:

As everyone knows I frequently call families to pick up sick children however there is a new group of children who are also being picked up. From time to time one of our students will exhibit extreme behaviours of concern, we manage most of this behaviour very well BUT when students or staff are being physically hurt I sometimes have no choice but to call parents to pick them up. This is always a last option, we cannot work on improving behaviour if the child is not here. The situation is also problematic in that some children see going home as a great thing. In sending children home it is not my intention to punish them for hurting others, it is to keep others safe. Dandenong Valley does not use physical restraint or seclusion to prevent challenging behaviour and when we call you to take your child home please understand this is our last resort. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Parking:

On an entirely different matter we are still having issues with parents parking single file in our turning circle, at busy times this can result in queuing across our driveway and into Victoria Road.

Our turning circle has room for two cars side by side so please move into the circle and do not block up the driveway and the road. I also need to remind drivers not to enter the school grounds until after the last bus has left.

Cheers Sue.
