Senior Pastoral Care

Senior Pastoral Care Activity

Celebrating International Women Day, Maddie Connors, a mother, artist, Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung and Gamilaroi woman, delivered our Year 11 and 12 students a heartfelt and memorable presentation about her journey and hardships she faced to get to where she is now. Maddie detailed how she faced a plethora of difficulties that she overcame and accomplished. From her upbringing, the life she experienced was not an easy one, but her unwavering perseverance and will to succeed and pursue her passion served as her motivation. Her efforts of being a mum while balancing school work and working towards a Bachelor of Health at Banyule Community and a Bachelor of Arts displays her strong quality of independence and autonomy. She didn't have access to the same chances as many of her peers during her senior year of high school, and as a result, she struggled and had to repeat Year 11. However in turn of this, she was able to pick herself back up and see something within herself that enabled her to achieve her goals. She instilled in us the value of culture, mental health, particularly during the VCE years, and the importance of having a network of people who are supportive of one another, not just in the immediate family but also in the community. Maddie Connors' presentation served us a heart-wrenching deliverance of her life that made the whole cohort shed a tear.
