‘Forming lives of faith, hope and love in the light of Christ’.

On 17 March, the Feast Day of St Patrick, student leaders from Years 8 to 12, represented the College at the student leadership Mass at St Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne. The event had many distinguished guests from across the Melbourne diocese, including parliamentarians, leaders from Catholic Education and hundreds of students representing Catholic schools. The theme of the 2023 Catholic Education Week is ‘Forming lives of faith, hope and love in the light of Christ’. Throughout the day we were able to see the importance of taking the example of Christ in living with hope and love and the importance of spreading the light of Christ within our School communities.

The day started with Holy Mass which was a significant part of the day. Mass started with the procession led by bagpipes symbolic of the Irish culture followed by the school's procession of banners. Archbishop of Melbourne Peter Comensoli spoke about the important role of being witnesses of Christ no matter what age we are. By sharing the example of St. Patrick, he inspired all students, staff and others present to follow in Jesus’ footsteps of bravery and strength. The Mass was led by students across Victoria who were involved in readings, choir and altar serving, showing great examples of leadership.

The day concluded with lunch in the Treasury Gardens where school bands performed and other school-initiated sporting activities were available for primary school students. It was a wonderful day filled with learning opportunities as well as a day to enjoy the serene cathedral grounds.
