NAPLAN

As you are aware, NAPLAN testing will take place this week and next for our Year 3 and 5 students. The Year 3 writing test will continue to be paper based, however all other Year 3 and 5 NAPLAN tests will be online.

The testing schedule is set out below and will run from 9.30am - 11am each morning:

Wednesday 15th

Thursday 16th

Friday 17th

Monday 20th

Reading

Conventions of Language

Numeracy

We ask parents and carers to please be mindful of avoiding planned holidays or appointments for your Year 3 and 5 students throughout this timeframe. Of course, we understand that absence due to illness is unavoidable. Please speak to Mr Morgan or Mr Walsh if you have any queries regarding this.

If your child will be using their own device, please ensure that it is fully charged each morning. Students will also require the use of headphones. We will have some at school that the students can be provided with, however if they would like to bring their own, they are more than welcome to.

In terms of other arrangements to allow the testing to run smoothly, our specialist timetable will be altered on Wednesday and Thursday with SC1 going to specialists in the morning. Our Grade 4s and 6s will complete some alternate activities each morning, and our Grade 2s will join SC1 each morning.

Should we require a catch-up session for any absent students, this will occur on Tuesday 21st March.

Scotsburn Award Winners

Congratulations to our award winners from last week. You have all demonstrated wonderful learning behaviours and have represented yourselves and the campus tremendously.

We also had quite a few winners for our Kindness raffle, who all received a Zooper Dooper or toastie voucher. A reminder that the raffle is an ongoing feature of the campus, with all teachers and helpers looking out for students displaying kindness towards others to be entered into the raffle. We have already had a few repeat winners, so congratulations to everyone displaying a high level of kindness.

Grade 6 GRIP Leadership Conference

The Grade 6 GRIP Leadership Conference is coming up on Tuesday the 28th March in Melbourne. The GRIP Student Leadership Conference is a great way for students to learn more about leadership and themselves as leaders. The event will be held at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Students participate in an engaging and interactive day of presentations, activities, games and discussions with presenters and students from other schools around the state. Please note that this is an optional "opt in" excursion and all Grade 6 students (at Buninyong and Scotsburn) are now invited to express an interest in attending. A reminder that all grade 6 students interested in attending must complete the online expression of interest form before 12pm Thursday 16th March.

Students attending do not need to hold recognised leadership positions, as part of the philosophy that will be addressed at this conference is that all upper primary students play an important leadership role in the school. We would love to see lots of Scotsburn Grade 6 students attend this day, as students in the past have had a great day at the event and have developed lots of leadership skills in the process.

Grade 6 Grand Prix Excursion

Our Grade 6 students are also lucky enough this term to be attending the Australian Formula One Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne, on Friday 31st March. Students will attend the event via bus and will have the opportunity to view a range of different motor cars racing, including the formula one cars. The day will provide students with the opportunity to learn about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) in exciting ways. Some of the themes covered on the day and in the lead up include aerodynamics, design, drag, power, thrust and lift. This day will also engage the students in studying different techniques of marketing used by Formula One teams, which will be greatly beneficial for their key learning themes of money and economics, studied later in the year.

Parents of Grade 6 students, please check compass events for permission and payment, as the event, as both are due by this Friday.

3-6 Interschool Athletics Day

What a great day everyone had at the Interschool athletics last week. We were so proud of all our Scotsburn students, with everyone demonstrating resilience and their personal best. We even had 3 girls in the championship race, which is an amazing effort. Well done everyone!!

Family Groups

Last Friday we had another productive family group session. The Sustainability group worked on tidying up some garden beads, the Sport group played some games with the focus on resilience, kindness and having fun, and the Cooking group turned SC2 into an Italian restaurant to enjoy some scrumptious pizzas.

It is always wonderful to see the cross-campus relationships flourish during these sessions and the students are having a ball!

Learning Snapshots

Due to the long weekend, this week’s learning snapshots for each class as well as specialists will go out on Compass later in the week.
