Catholic Identity

PRAYER

Next Sunday we celebrate Palm Sunday, which marks the beginning of Holy Week, a time where we remember the suffering, death and Resurrection of Jesus .  Mass begins with the blessing and distribution of palm branches.  These represent the palm branches which the crowd scattered in front of Christ as he rode into Jerusalem before the Last Supper.  As Catholics' prayer is a big focus of Holy Week, we are encouraged to attend Mass on Holy Thursday and to pray the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. Easter Sunday is a principal feast of the church. It marks the Resurrection of Jesus three days after his death by crucifixion.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

Congratulations to Baptised Catholic students in Year 3, who made their first Confession last Thursday.  In the week prior the students along with one parent attended a Workshop where we unpacked the impotence of Sacraments for Catholics.  Reconciliation is one of the two sacraments of healing and we are invited to go to Confession regularly.  We wish to especially thank Fr Albert, Fr. Huy Nguyen and Fr Anton for celebrating this Sacrament with us.

YEAR 6s VISIT THE CATHEDRAL

Each year during the month of March all Catholic schools in Melbourne celebrate Catholic Education Week.  On Friday March 17th, we were invited to send 10 representatives to a Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne.  Our 20 Catholic students in Year 6 travelled into the city on this day.  Some students attended the Mass at the Cathedral while the remainder of the group toured nearby Catholic churches including St Francis and St Augustine’s followed by a concert in the park.

PROJECT COMPASSION

Thanks to everyone who has generously donated to our Project Compassion Boxes. So far we have raised around $900. As you can see from the poster this money will be used for a range of projects including supporting families to grow their own vegie gardens or raise a chicken to supply the household with eggs. Imagine what a difference we could make in the world if we were able to make our final donation over $1,000!
