Dear Members of the Glen Waverley Primary School Community,
I trust all is well with you and your family and welcome to this fortnight’s newsletter where so much is shared about our wonderful school.
As per usual, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on 9802 9938 or via email at frank.catalano@education.vic.gov.au.
It is always a sheer delight when I have the privilege of making the following announcements to our school community. Congratulations to Ms. Ivana Krsteska, her husband Ash and their extended family on the safe arrival of baby Aria who was born on Wednesday 1st March.
Ivana and Aria are both doing well, and we look forward to seeing them ASAP; once again, congratulations Ivana and Ash and welcome to the Glen Waverley PS family Aria!
Our annual Prep Families BBQ was held on Thursday 2nd March and once again, it was a resounding success as so many families were able to meet and get to know one another whilst the children took the opportunity to expand on their friendships. Naturally such an event is not possible without the thorough planning and implementation of the staff – a sincere thank you to the numerous staff members who assisted in various ways as your efforts are greatly appreciated by the children, their families and me.
It was wonderful that we were able to complete our intra-school athletics sports on Friday 3rd March. As usual the children had a fabulous day and returned to school with an enormous sense of pride and accomplishment.
Mr. Parker and Ms. Lawlor are currently in the process of creating our school team which will compete against the local schools on Friday 31st March. We look forward to sharing both individual and team results as soon as possible.

Our second Curriculum Day for the year was held on Thursday 9th March and what a resounding success it was! As a staff we spent the morning with renowned global educationalist Eeqbal Hassim and the afternoon completing the updated DET Camps and Excursions e-Learning module. Please refer to Mrs. Garzberg-Grant’s piece for an overview of the day.
As of this year, the NAPLAN assessment tasks will be conducted in March rather than May for schools and families to receive the results earlier and in turn programs can be implemented to further assist the children with their learning.
At our school we commenced with the Year 3 and 5 students completing their Writing assessment yesterday and look forward to the remaining tasks being completed over the next 2 weeks. I wish all of the children well and also thank the Year 3 and 5 teachers and the families of the children completing the assessment tasks for all of their work in ensuring the children are prepared. Best wishes to all and we look forward to receiving the children’s results.
Included in this fortnight’s newsletter is Media Release advising of the new reporting standards.
