Term 1 is well underway now and after spending time learning about our peers and making connections the Year 2s are now a well-oiled learning machine!
Learners have explored recount writing and the importance of making sure that the events are sequenced. More recently, we have been doing an Author Study of Oliver Jeffers as a way to enhance our sentence structure and descriptive language. We took sentences from various texts by Oliver Jeffers including Stuck and The Way Back Home, analysed the parts of the sentence and used them as pattern to recreate them using our own imagination.
Learners have continued to explore and deepened their understanding of long and short vowel sounds as well as their different spellings. We have brainstormed by playing the game Popcorn to generate a word list, sorted words and used them to write silly sentences!
In maths, learners have been practicing ordering numbers by using their place value skills to identify the values in a number before ordering them. Learners ventured outside to demonstrate their knowledge and consolidate their collaborative skills with one another.
Did you know that giving you’re a brain a short break during learning time is a great way to maximise your learning? The Year 2s have been using short movement breaks to give their brain a chance to rest between tasks. This has been an excellent way for many students to get themselves and their brains and body ready for learning. One Brain Break activity has been Clay. In partners, one learner is an artist and the other is a chunk of clay. Without speaking or touching each other the artist must mould the clay into a shape using mirroring.
