Team Leader's Message

Term 1

Term 1 has started with a focus on building relationships, routines and a positive climate for learning. We began the year with the ‘Start up program’ which involved students completing a range of activities which were designed to support students to make connections with one another, as well as staff. Activities included, classes using wood to build the tallest free standing tower, students working together to create a product to present at Assembly and be judged by Concord Schools very own ‘Shark Tank’ judges.

In week 5, we went on an excursion to Bounce. A focus was on teamwork, supporting one another and of course fun! We are proud of the way students engaged with the various activities and encouraged their peers to do the same.

Our Discovery Unit this term has centred around the key question ‘How do my emotions impact my behaviour?’ To launch the Discovery Unit students took part in multiple incursions including a Zones of Regulation workshop discussing strategies that can be used when experiencing various emotions.

The students have enjoyed exploring the MILE room in the Discovery Centre which was set up as a rainforest retreat. Students used this environment to explore strategies to assist self regulation.

Secondary 7/8 SRC members were busy this term working together to raise awareness for Harmony Week. To acknowledge the week students and staff wore a splash of orange or cultural clothing. They then took part in a parade confidently sharing their culture with their peers.

Congratulations to all Secondary 7/8 students on the way they have demonstrated the Concord School expectations this term: Be a Learner, Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Respectful.
