Principal's Welcome

Carmela D'Amato

Dear Families,

Welcome to Week 8! I hope that everyone had a safe and happy long weekend. The weather was just glorious and I hope you got to enjoy some family time.

School Core Values

This term we have been focusing on one of our school core values of BELONGING and at staff meetings and in discussions with the students we have been discussing the importance of this value. At our staff meeting on Tuesday Mrs D’Souza shared an absolutely beautiful poem by a psychologist, Naomi Holdt. It speaks about how in BELONGING we grow, in BELONGING we heal and in BELONGING we find laughter again. That ties in beautifully with last Sunday's Gospel where we explored the notion of each of us having a memory of belonging and that it is this memory that helps us to move forward and find new connections and new beginnings.

Catholic Education Week

Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all Catholic schools across Victoria to celebrate their Catholic Identity from Sunday 12th of March to Sunday 19th of March. This year's theme is 'Forming lives of faith, hope and love in the light of Christ'. On Friday, our Year 6 school leaders along with myself and Ms Malone will be travelling to St Patrick’s Cathedral to celebrate mass with other catholic schools across our Archdiocese. We will then have an opportunity to travel to the Treasury Gardens to attend a concert and free, fun activities. We look forward to sharing the bus ride into the city and back, with school leaders and staff from St Carlo’s and Mary Queen of Heaven. What a great opportunity to share this experience with our three Parish schools!

Community Liaison Team

Thank you to the team for organising our parent help helpers for our photo day. It was so wonderful to have our parent helpers in assisting with lining the students up, adjusting collars, making sure that hair was neat and chatting to the students while they waited. We truly appreciate your assistance on the day and look forward to many more events.

Second Hand Uniform ShopThank-you to those parents who have added their name to assist with the Second Hand Uniform Shop. The Community Delegate team is meeting on the 22nd of March to discuss the roster. If you are able to assist, please enter your availability via the eform on the Skoolbag app. The more parents we get, the more regularly we can hold the stall.

Mrs Ginette D'Souza will holding a Parent Volunteer session on Thursday 16th March. If you would like to volunteer within our school, it is important that you complete this course.

Report  Research Group

Our report research team has started to meet to discuss the way that our school reports are giving parents the information they need to capture a true sense of where their children is working at whilst at school. We had some interesting discussions, looked at a few samples from different schools and compared the information given. If you would like to be part of this group, please feel free to come to our next meeting on Thursday 23rd of March at 5pm to 6pm in the school staffroom.

If you would like to be part of this group, please email me: cdamato@sogsgpark.catholic.edu.au

If you would like to give some feedback on our current reports, please fill in this survey.

For GOVERNMENT secondary colleges: enrolments are open for Year 6 students.

You will need to collect enrolment forms from your preferred secondary college.

Do you know someone starting prep in 2024?
