ALL WELCOME – WORSHIP SERVICES AT ST PAUL

Everyone is welcome to join us on Sunday morning for worship. For a trial period of six months, there will be one combined service held at 9.30 on the first Sunday of the Month, with a blended style of worship.  This means that this Sunday, 2nd April, there will be one service at 9.30am, where will celebrate Palm Sunday. That Sunday is also the end of Daylight Savings, so please make sure you put your clocks backwards one hour before you go to bed Saturday night.

PALM SUNDAY

Palm Sunday occurs on the Sunday before Easter and commemorates triumphant Jesus’ arrival into Jerusalem, where he entered the city knowing that he would be tried and put to death on a cross, but also that he would rise from the grave and save all of humankind from their sin.  Jesus came to show that had not come to establish an earthly kingdom, and so did not ride in on a horse or chariot as expected, but on a donkey: a sign of humility and peace.

The name Palm Sunday come from the crowds of people in Jerusalem laying down palm branches and joyfully celebrating the arrival of their King.  The people also shouted ‘Hosanna’, which means ‘please save us.’  In many churches, the building is decorated with palm leaves, either inside or out to commemorate that we celebrate Jesus as our King and as a reminder that we welcome Jesus into our hearts and therefore our willingness to follow him.

PLAYGROUP @ ST PAUL

Playgroup @St Paul is on each Tuesday during Term time in the Hall.  We welcome people anytime from 8.30 onwards to help set up. Join us for a coffee, playtime, story time and songs from 9-10.30 each week during school terms. Cost is $2 per family.  We offer a simple craft, a sensory activity and read a book related to a different theme each week.

This week we looked for (and found!) the Green Sheep from the popular Mem Fox book.  We made green cotton wool sheep and we played with green oats in the sensory play space.

Next week we will be celebrating Easter, with some Easter crafts and activities.

For more information about anything playgroup related contact Kylie Koelman in the Church Office on 8262 4690 or email at office@stpaul-church.org.au

GROWING FAITH AT HOME

This resource is developed by the Lutheran Church of Australia and is intended to be a guide in sharing faith activities with members of your family.

Here are a few ways you could introduce faith discussions in your home and day-to-day life.

Mealtime Prayer:  Lord Jesus, as we gather this week may we remember all that you have done for

us, and all that you call us to do for others.  Bless this food to strengthen us in your service. Amen.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, our king, please come and rule in our lives so that we are humble and gentle like you. Amen.

Bible Verse of the Week: Hosanna to the son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven! (Matthew 21:9)

EASTER ACTIVITY – STATIONS OF THE CROSS

The Stations of the Cross refers to a series of images, or ‘stations’ depicting Jesus on the day of his death on a cross.  They are commonly ordered along a path and used as a mini pilgrimage as a person moves from station to station, pausing to reflect and pray at each specific event from Jesus’ last day, starting with his condemnation and ending with his death.

An outdoor, interactive Stations of the Cross journey located at Houghton is open to anyone who may be interested.
