Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,
“Empowering students for learning and life”
I would like to welcome everybody back to Term 3. We have had a great start to the term, despite the chilly weather. I trust everyone has had a wonderful and restful break. This is a big term for our Year 12s as they enter the last stretch of their final year of schooling. We look forward to working with them and supporting them in achieving their very best.
Senior School Information Evening
On Wednesday 18th of July we held our Senior School Information evening. This was a very important event for all of our students in Year 9 and 10 and it was great to see so many parents, carers and students in attendance. The evening provided parents/carers and our students with valuable information to assist them in making an informed decision regarding the most appropriate pathway for the young person. Students need to consider whether or not to complete a VET certificate, starting in Year 10; whether to complete a VCE or a VCAL senior certificate. This evening provided students and families the opportunity to ask questions and clarify intentions for the future prior to the individual course counselling which will occur over the next couple of weeks for our Year 9 and 10 students. It was a very successful night. We look forward to working with our students and their parents/carers during the course counselling days scheduled on Wednesday 25th of July for our Year 10 students and Thursday 26th of July for our Year 9 students.
Semester One Presentation Ceremony
On Friday 20th July, we held our first ever mid-year Presentation Ceremony. This ceremony recognised those students who consistently work hard and are quiet achievers always striving to do their very best. We recognised our young people who conduct themselves as young leaders, doing their very best, modelling positive behaviours, supporting others, working hard in class and participating in a range of activities. It was fantastic to see so many parents, carers and family members attend the ceremony and proudly see their young person achieve their Academic Endeavour Award. Our guest speaker, Ngino Amum, spoke about the challenges she faced as a young student with a disability and how through adopting a positive, can do attitude, hard work, perseverance and determination achieved significant success. Ngino is a Lyndhurst Secondary College alumni, who is involved in Access to Fashion, an event in Melbourne on September 1st that features a diverse range of models. She also works with Starlight Children’s Foundation, giving back after the help she had received from them. Ngino is a remarkable young woman, and is an inspiration for our students.
This year we also recognised those students who demonstrate our Core Values. I would like to acknowledge and congratulate Oanh Nguyen and Megan Bailey for receiving the award for commitment. April Maku and Julliene Campang for their consistent demonstration of our core value of respect. April Maku also received the award for her contribution to our school community together with Heidi Neels.
We are very proud of all our award recipients.
We look forward to celebrating with our students achievements at the end of semester 2.
Partnership with Melbourne Football Club
We are thrilled to announce a partnership with Melbourne Football Club who will be working with our students over the next couple of terms, running training clinics and motivational talks for our students. This will continue in 2019, with them working with our students and our school as part of our new Academy program. We are very excited to be working with them and see this as an amazing opportunity for our students.
More detail to follow as we develop this partnership and our students become involved in the program.
2018 Parent Opinion Survey
The annual Parent Opinion Survey, offered by the Department of Education and Training, for 2018 will be conducted during Term 3 from 23rd of July to 26th of August 2018.
The survey is an important part of our school's parent engagement strategies and will assist us with future planning and improvement. It will be tabled at School Council and presented to all staff. The Leadership Team will use this to inform the work we do for continued school improvement.
Approximately 30 percent of our parents, randomly selected, will be invited to participate in the annual survey, which is confidential and anonymous.
This year the survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time within the fieldwork period from 23rd of July to 26th of August 2018.
If you are contacted to complete the survey, please ensure that you access the online survey on the link that you will personally be provided with by August 26th. Please note that this survey is conducted independently of the College; the survey results will be reported back to our school at the end of September
The online survey is available in English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha) and Hindi.
Survey language guides will be provided in a range of languages including Albanian, Bengali, Burmese, Cantonese, Dari, Filipino, Greek, Gujarati, Indonesian, Japanese, Karen, Khmer, Korean, Macedonian, Malayalam, Pashto, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Serbian, Sinhalese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Telugu, Turkish or Urdu.

We look forward to reviewing parent feedback through this survey as it will guide the future of our school.
Lynbrook Art Competition
The Lynbrook Art Competition culminated in an awards presentation on Thursday 28th June, which was held at the Suburban Burger in Lynbrook where all of our students who participated enjoyed lunch with their Art Work on display around the restaurant. Congratulations to all our students who conducted themselves respectfully and made our school very proud. A particular mention needs to go to the award recipients, Rifat Nur (Year 12) who won first prize ($300 gift card); other award recipients include Alex Prachamon, Austin Sawyer and Bonn Sithick Soth. A very special thanks to Melanie Brown, the Marketing Manager at Lynbrook Village Shopping Centre, who together with Claire Clancy worked tirelessly to organise this special event. I would also like to thank our Art teacher, Ms Georgie Gaitanis, who supported our students throughout the entire event. There is an article on page 20 of the Cranbourne News, dated 12th July, where our winners and their paintings are on display; it is worth a read. Congratulations again to everyone involved.
Cranbourne Home Art Competition
Lyndhurst Secondary College and Cranbourne Home joined forces to bring the community together through art. An opportunity was identified at Cranbourne Home using hanging banners and poster wall frames; Lyndhurst Secondary College students were invited to submit a piece of artwork that reflected their Community – City of Casey in winter.
Cranbourne Home asked the public to ‘like your favourite design’ using the Cranbourne Home Facebook page. Finalists work was published online in May and judging commenced to find the top 10 images with the most likes.
Thank you to everyone that participated and voted, there was an overwhelming response.
This has been another exciting opportunity for our students, working with the wider community on art projects to enhance their own experiences as well as promoting our College as a vibrant, positive and exciting place to learn.
The student’s art work has been created into hanging banners and posters and is now displayed at Cranbourne Home. At a special assembly later this term, Claudia Presta from Cranbourne Home will attend and present the top ten winning designs with their prizes.
Congratulations to all students for such an amazing effort. Please see our website for the final results.
