3-4 Learning Community Celebration

As part of our school wide positive reinforcement strategy, students have been earning Creek Coins for showing Care, Collaboration and Commitment. The 3-4 Learning Community had a goal of 1000 Creek Coins, which they reached! The reward for achieving this goal was to have a whole day celebration.

On Wednesday they celebrated this success by playing tabloid sports, having a family picnic and watching a movie. The weather was perfect and it was wonderful to see so many family members come along and join in! A big thank you to everyone who came and for all your support of our students.

Prep Learning Community

Nash, Wayne, Parker and Abbey came up to the office to share their imaginative writing pieces. It was hard work choosing just four children; Peta wanted to send all of her Prep writers along to show off their incredible work! Well done to all on such fantastic commitment to wonderful, creative writing.

School Crossing

A reminder that work on our new and improved school crossing will commence during the holidays. We will have a new crossing supervisor from the beginning of Term 4.

Geelong Animal Rescue

Our SRC organised a 'Onesie'/Footy Colour day to raise funds for the Geelong Animal Rescue (GAR).

GAR is a 100% volunteer run organisation that relies on the community to help rescue and re-home animals. Through the placement of Donation Bins, GAR are able to provide food and supplies (beds, leads/collars) to the foster animals in their care.

It is always great to see so many students support such an important cause and we greatly appreciate all the donations, raising a total of $242.50!

We will be collecting donations for GAR over the first 4 weeks of Term 4.

We are asking for donations of canned food, blankets, toys etc, please bring your donations in to the office.

The GAR guide is attached below for more information on the amazing work they do.

Leading Senior Constable - Robbie Noggler

We invited Leading Senior Constanble, Robbie Noggler to talk to our school community about Cyber Safety and the law.

Thank you to all the parent who attended the Cyber Safety and law parent information session on Monday night. Robbie presented to parents on their role in managing their child’s screen time as well as who access the various online platforms. He urged parents to monitor their child’s online activities such as checking that websites are appropriate for a child's use and keeping an eye on the screen. The biggest advice to parents is to monitor often, as well as keeping the device in a shared family area.

The following morning he met with the Grade 3 - 6 students and continued with the discussion around how to  safely use online platforms. He also talked about cyber bullying. Feedback from students, parents and teachers has been very positive. We hope to invite Robbie back again in Term 4 to talk to our Grade 1 and 2 students.

Please find below some valuable information Robbie shared with our parent community.

School Hats

A reminder that students must wear a hat at recess and lunch play during Term 4.

Walk to School Week

Walk to School is back for 2019 and we can’t wait to get walking, riding and scooting to and from school!

Every October, Walk to School encourages Victorian primary school kids to walk, ride or scoot to and from school. It’s a great way to help students learn healthy habits and achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity, every day. It also encourages primary schools, local councils and communities to make active travel easy, safe and accessible.  This year, we will be participating for the week from Monday 14 to Friday 18 October.   Students will have the opportunity to secure house points for simply walking, riding their bike or scooting to school!

Along with the health benefits, walking to school has benefits for the whole community. It reduces traffic congestion, saves on parking, helps us connect with family and friends and even saves the environment! There are so many great reasons to participate in Walk to School this October.

Walk to School creates positive health outcomes. It’s based on extensive research and evidence indicating that increased physical activity in Victorian children can provide real health benefits. To promote physical activity in Victorian communities, VicHealth has funded 71 councils. They play a crucial role in supporting schools and ensuring it’s safe, easy and fun to walk, ride or scoot to school this October.

Have a happy and safe holidays everyone.

See you all back at school on Monday 7 October.
