Senior School News

These are very challenging and unique times and we have seen a mixture of both on site learning and remote learning for our senior school students this term.

We were excited to commence the term on Monday 13 July and resume all Senior School classes, both VCE and VCAL on site.  It was a unique situation, with staff undertaking temperature checks every morning of all senior school students on their arrival at school.  Then, on Wednesday 5 August our Senior School students returned to remote learning, after the announcement by the Premier acting on the advice of the Chief Health Officer.

I would like to commend and congratulate our students on their exemplary approach to their learning and studies (both on site and remotely). Teachers have been full of praise and admiration of our students’ work ethic and motivation during these difficult times.  I would like to sincerely thank our teachers for their hard work and dedication in providing a continuity of learning for our senior school students.

We were very pleased to receive recent advice from the VCAA that Essential Assessments can occur on site for students undertaking a Unit 3/4 study. Information has been emailed to families and Year 12 assessments will resume on site from Monday 31 August, with all protocols and guidelines from the DET and the VCAA implemented.

Course Counselling And Subject Selection

Thank you to our Careers Practitioner, Mrs Sharon Bourne, and the Senior School Coordination Team for overseeing the course selection process for senior school studies in 2021.  This was a very unique situation this year, where course counselling for our current Year 10 students was conducted virtually.  Under Mrs Bourne’s leadership, this was a huge success and we have received wonderful feedback from our parents and students.  I would also like to thank the team of course counsellors, including Mr John Albiston, Mrs Cathy Hogg, Mr Jacob Givogue, Mr Craig Richardson, Mr Simon Cameron, Mrs Ellen D’Ambra, Mr Paul Don, Mr Joel Treyvaud, Mrs Kerryn Elrick, Ms Elise Roper, Mrs Sharon Koning and Mrs Carolyn McIver who assisted students and parents in this important process.

Year 12 Mid Year Exams

Thank you to our supervisors, in particular our Chief Supervisor, Mrs Bev Valentine, for administering the Year 12 exams at the beginning of this term.  Our students’ behaviour and attendance was exemplary.

Year 11 Mid Year Exams

Year 11 students completed one week of end of semester exams on site, with the second week being completed remotely.  Thank you to our teachers for preparing, supervising and marking the exams; providing valuable feedback to the students on their progress to date.  Thank you also to Mrs Ellen D’Ambra and Mr Paul Don for organising and overseeing the exams and Mrs Carolyn McIver and Mrs Rhonda Gifford for overseeing the distribution of exams to students to complete at home.

VTAC Selections 2021

This term Year 12 students begin the important process of preparing their Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre (VTAC) selections for next year.  Information, guidance, and assistance will be available in iSupport sessions over the next few weeks and from the Careers Practitioner, Mrs Sharon Bourne.

Performance And Oral Examinations

Students in studies with a performance or oral component have been given a timetable for these examinations.  Any student who has not received a timetable should email Mr Cameron immediately.  Students should arrive at their examination half an hour before the scheduled start time and must have photo identification with them.

Good luck to all students involved.

Year 12 Exams – September Holidays

Frankston High School is conducting compulsory Year 12 exams during the September holidays.  The exams will commence on Friday 25 September and will conclude on Friday 2 October.

The advantages of this practice are clear including: ensuring students utilise their September holidays for revision; opportunities for our students to maximise their success/results; maximising class revision time in Term 4 where teachers can address areas of concern in student performance and exam technique and it provides opportunities for students to hone exam techniques and practices.

It is our expectation that Year 12 students would devote the third term holiday period to revision and study in preparation for the examinations and the final VCAA examinations.  These examinations will be conducted under VCAA and Frankston High School guidelines. Final examination timetables have been distributed to students and parents.

I hope this initiative of examinations and the provision of teacher feedback will significantly enhance your child’s performance in the exams, allowing them to achieve their best.
