Ourschool Industry Insights Session #1

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Ourschool, in collaboration with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, recently hosted their first 2020 live-stream.

The live session, involving predominately Year 10 students, showcased health, allied health and medical pathways that exist within the world-class cancer research, education, and treatment centre.

Hundreds of students from across Victoria, including NGSC students, tuned in to hear from an amazing panel consisting of six Peter Mac staff, also alumni of the state secondary schools involved in the Ourschool Program.

Students asked questions about the various career pathways staff took, the realities of the wide range of roles they hold today and what they enjoy so much, every day, about their chosen professions working at Peter Mac.

We look forward to hosting three more Ourschool Industry Insights sessions between now and the end of this year.

Ourschool Industry Insights Session #2

KPMG International Cooperative

The next session will be a collaboration with one of the ‘Big Four’ accounting organisations, KPMG International Cooperative will be held first week back of Term 4 on Friday, 9 October, 2020 from 10:00 am to11:30 am. Interested students, who attend Ourschool-partnered schools, will hear from speakers employed at KPMG about jobs in business and the professional services industry. Again, the session will be conducted virtually as a live-streamed session.

The session aims to help students:

  • Broaden their thinking about different post-school pathways including the qualifications and experiences required to work in this industry
  • Learn about different jobs in a large international accounting and business management firm
  • Highlight the importance of technical skills, transferable skills and attributes for career success
  • Better understand the changing landscape of work and future industry predictions
  • Strive academically, take part in co-curricular activities and seek out opportunities to develop
  • To add value to students’ career / pathway planning especially for Year 10 students unable to complete work experience this year due to COVID 19

Who can attend?

Year 10 students, especially those who are interested in business, management and accounting pathways. Students in Years 11 and 12 are also able to take part with approval from their teachers.
