e-Safety Webinars

eSAFETY COMMISSIONER FREE WEBINARS!

Dear Parents and Carers,

Technology is one of the main productivity and connection tools we use in life, particularly during COVID-19. Whether it’s to communicate, learn, collaborate or for entertainment, we are relying on our devices and internet access more than ever.

To support parents and carers, Murrumbeena Primary School would like to promote the latest information offered by the Australian Government. Over the next two weeks, the eSafety Commissioner is offering free webinars for adults wanting to learn more about some of the most popular apps Australian students are using, with a particular focus on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat

Here are some helpful ‘Tips and Tricks’, to keep your children safe online:

  1. Monitor your child’s use. Where possible, try to limit the amount of time young students are on their devices alone. For example, at night in their bedrooms. Encourage your children to use their devices in a public space in the house, where they are clearly visible; particularly out of school hours.
  2. Set time limits. Negotiate and set time limits for weekdays and weekend technology use with your children… and stick to them!
  3. Use parental controls. Ensure your children ask you before downloading apps or accessing programs and activate parental controls on devices. Know what your children are accessing and when.
  4. Educate yourself. To best support and protect your children is to learn about the apps, games or content they are accessing. Check the age recommendations on the app store, read reviews and ask your children to teach you how to use the technology. That way, you can decide for yourself whether they are mature enough to use the technology.
  5. Be approachable. Let your children know that if they see, hear or experience anything online that makes them feel uncomfortable, you are available to speak to.
