PRAYER
With Father’s Day in mind I have included the following prayer:-
Praise Those Fathers
Let us praise those fathers who have striven to balance the demands of work, marriage, and children with an honest awareness of both joy and sacrifice.
Let us praise those fathers who, lacking a good model for a father, have worked to become a worthy and virtuous father.
Let us praise those fathers who, by their own account, were not always there for their children, but who continue to offer those children, now grown, their love and support. As well, let us pray for those fathers who have been wounded by words and actions of their children.
Let us praise those fathers who, despite marital discord, have remained in their children's lives.
Let us praise those fathers whose children are adopted, and whose love and support has nurtured a thriving life.
Let us praise those fathers who, as stepfathers, freely choose the obligation of fatherhood and earned their step children's love and respect.
Let us praise those fathers who have lost a child to death, and continue to hold the child in their heart.
Let us praise those men who have no children, but cherish the next generation as if they were their own.
Let us praise those men who have "fathered" us in their role as mentors and guides.
Let us praise those men who are about to become fathers; may they openly delight in their children.
And let us praise those fathers who have died, but live on in our memory and whose love continues to nurture us.

FATHER'S DAY ASSEMBLY
The boys from 6 Red and Mr Carroll, along with some senior boys have done a wonderful job of honouring Fatherhood via a streamed Assembly for Father's Day. The Assembly will be available to view on the Portal after 8.45 am on Friday.
THIS WEEK IN THE CLASSROOMS
For Year 6 parents a good conversation starter would be a question around what the boys have been learning about in Health, as they are studying the Reproductive System and Relationships this term. Year 5 have or are about to present speeches on an American Indian tribe. Year 5 are looking at healthy choices and have been learning about smoking and e-cigarettes which is another worthwhile conversation to have with your child.
THURSDAY - Summer Sports Trials - Don't forget it is also Winter Sport and Other Group Photo Day
We will follow the same format as last week. All boys will attend school for the first two periods and then we will bus (5 buses) down to Oxford Falls for recess, sport and lunch. If you choose to pick up your son, it will be from 1.30 pm to 1.45 pm in front of the Christian Brother’s Centre. This is the plan for the remainder of the term unless you are informed otherwise.
WINTER SPORTS AND OTHER GROUP PHOTOS
Winter Sports and Other Group Photos are being held on Thursday 3 September.
For students in Rugby, AFL and Football
Please wear normal sports uniform and bring all necessary Saturday winter sport uniform including boots. Shin pads and mouthguards are not required.
Students in the following Groups
Please wear Full Winter Uniform on Thursday 3 September - not sports uniform. Also bring winter sports uniform if necessary, and remember to bring runners.
These students need to ensure they also bring sports clothes to participate in Thursday sport, including runners.
Students in no photos
These students can wear normal sport uniform.
WALKATHON
Wow! Congratulations to the boys on a fantastic effort. The boys seemed to have a lot of fun and they gained plenty of fitness work, all while helping those less fortunate than ourselves. So far we have raised $7,500. Well done. This is a wonderful lesson for the boys in thinking about others in the Edmund Rice Tradition. These funds assist St Mary’s Bowraville, St Joseph’s Walgett and our World Vision Sponsor, Vipin Singh Ramadhar from India.
BIRTHDAYS
Congratulations to the following boys who celebrate or have celebrated their birthdays in September.
Joshua Baker, Kui Kiu Chan, Luca Cheal, Patrick Elliott, Jack Fairbanks, Lucas Gleeson, Ryan Horan, Yujin Kim, Maxwell Lei, Jack McGirr, Hamish Ningiga, Matthew Sissons, James Slade, Joseph Sorrentino, George Stewart and Noah Tachjian.
Enjoy!
FUTURE EVENTS
Don’t forget about Father’s Day on Sunday September 6. I hope Dad gets at least warm toast and a hot cuppa!
On September 11 is the “Lights, Camera, Pius” Film Festival. If any boys are interested, they have until Friday to submit their submissions. Please remind them to submit on a USB.
September 11 is also "RUOK Day". A great initiative where we should all ask a simple question to check in on people.
THOUGHT TO PONDER

This week's Highlights:
Spring is here! What better way to celebrate than with a beautiful bunch of Wattle Babies by May Gibbs.
May Gibbs (1877-1969), author and illustrator, has captured the hearts and imaginations of generations of Australian with her lovable bush characters and fairy tale landscapes.
Our library holds a copy of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, so pop in and celebrate Spring!
The State Library of New South Wales holds a remarkable collection of Gibbs’ original illustrations, cartoons and literary papers, most of which was deposited into the Mitchell Library in 1970.
This week in our non-fiction collection our spotlight is on the 600’s. Technology, Engineering, Medical Sciences, Agriculture, Home Economics, Buildings. Check out some of the most borrowed books in the 500's. #SPXJRC
NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge 2020 - Celebrate Reading with Popcorn and a Movie!
A huge thank you to all the students who entered the PRC for 2020. It has been a challenging year and it is wonderful to see that the boys have engaged in their reading for 2020. I was very busy validating student records over the weekend and I am happy to reveal that the PRC Movie and Popcorn party winners are….. 6 Blue and 5 Blue!
Indigenous Literacy Day - September 2, 2020. A Celebration of Language and Literacy
How are you going to be celebrating Indigenous Literacy Day? The boys were able to join in live at the Indigenous Literacy YouTube Channel at 12:30 pm today. Featuring ILF ambassadors @jessicamauboy1, @alisonlesterbooks, @shelly_ware, @jaredthomas6 plus long-time supporter @archieroachmusic and kids from remote communities.

Library Monitor’s Book Reviews.
The Bad Guys: Episode 1 by Aaron Blabey
The Bad Guys is a very exciting and funny book. I like how Aaron Blabey has drawn the characters, but I feel it would have been better in colour. The best parts are the funny sections, for example how Mr. Piranha tries to talk to the cat. This book is about a wolf, piranha, shark, and a snake who join a good guy club and find things in the world that need to be changed. I recommend this book to people who like action and comedy at the same time.
