Prayer

Happy Father's Day

Lord, we thank you for the gift of fathers.

We pray that their lessons of responsibility, virtue and love

will be engraved on our hearts always.

Please guide and help all fathers.

We pray through the Patron Saint of fathers St Joseph to our Father in Heaven

for his courage, strength and selflessness.

We pray through Blessed Edmund Rice because he was a father figure

to those who didn't have a father.

Thank you, God, for the fathers you have given us.

They have contributed to the family in many ways and

share love throughout the family.

Lord, thank you for my dad and other dads around the world.

Thank you for grandfathers and father figures in our lives.

Please take care of the ones who are not with us right now.

They will always have our love and we will always have theirs.

Blessed Edmund Rice, Pray for us

St Pius X, Pray for us

Live, Jesus in our Hearts, Forever

We offer our love and appreciation to all our fathers and grandfathers for Father’s Day this Sunday September 6. Our dads are so often the unsung heroes and we want to send out our loudest shout of “Thanks Dad – we love you”. This Friday we have a special streamed Assembly led by 6 Red for Father’s Day. All dads are welcome to join us to watch this special event, which will be available for viewing this Friday morning after 8.45 am on the Parent Portal.

HSC Trials Conclude

Our Year 12 students concluded their Trials on Monday and today they enjoyed a Retreat Day at Oxford Falls. In every way we continue to refine their learning and examinations skills for the preparations to sit their HSC exams next term. Their special guest speaker was 2004 Old Boy, Anthony Bradstreet, who is now Community Engagement Manager with the NSW Rural Fire Service. Anthony’s message of service and community was outstanding. He gave a real expression of faith and hard work.

Please keep Year 12 in your prayers.

Colour Awards

Congratulations to the recipients of the Blue and Silver Colour Awards for Cricket, Basketball, Music, Drama and Swimming activities which were presented at the Sports Assembly last Friday.

Please see the Senior School Sports and Performing Arts Sections of this Woodchatta for more details and photos.

Junior School Walkathon

Thank you to the Junior School for the Walkathon held last week.  Special thanks to the family and friends who have contributed.  These funds assist St Mary’s Bowraville, St Joseph’s Walgett and our World Vision Sponsor, Vipin Singh Ramadhar from India.  Please see the Junior School Section for more details.

Congratulations to Mrs Suzanne Kavanagh, Principal of Mercy Catholic College, Chatswood

I spoke this week with Mrs Suzanne Kavanagh, the Principal of Mercy Catholic College who has announced her retirement at the end of 2020 following 11 years as Principal. Mrs Kavanagh has been an outstanding leader and will be sadly missed. In her years at Mercy Catholic College, Mrs Kavanagh has supported many joint activities between our schools. We certainly wish her well and congratulate her on her excellent Principalship.

Message to Year 12 students from the Governor of New South Wales

We have received a moving and heartfelt letter addressed to our Year 12 students from the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley, attached below.

Old Boy, The Hon John Watkins, AM visits the College

Old Boy, John Watkins, visited the College on Thursday 27 August.  John was the College Vice Captain in 1973 and also an outstanding athlete, specialising in the 400m.

After leaving the College, he was a teacher before entering state politics.  At different times he was Minister for Police, Minister for Education and Training, Minister for Finance and also Deputy Premier of New South Wales.

He was pleased to look through the College archives and reminisce about his time at St Pius X College with our Head of Publications and Communications, Tony Cunneen.
