Sport

Since last week we have had the positive news from the premier announcing that we have moved into the 3rd step of COVID restrictions which means some sport trainings and competitions can resume.

At the time of writing this there is no confirmed news of return dates for our local sporting competitions in cricket, tennis or rowing. There is hope however that training sessions (and perhaps competition) for rowing and cricket can resume early next term while an internal tennis competition is likely to go ahead during the term and a new junior basketball season may commence later in the term. Please check emails and SIMON towards the end of the holidays and when we return to school to be up to date of any training and competition information. If you have any other questions, please ask the relevant Head of that sport.

In relation to ICCES and GD interschool sporting events, unfortunately all remaining events have been cancelled for 2020. House Sport Afternoons are still planned for the remainder of the year (if possible) and various House sports will be run then and during some lunchtimes in Term 4.

Basketball News

Hopefully some of you have already seen or heard this information and know what is happening with the HBA for the remainder of 2020 and 2021 and have started to be able to consider your involvement – if not please read carefully what is outlined below.

Basically, the HBA is hoping that a new season of juniors only will start during November and continue up until the last week of Term 1, 2021(with a break over school holidays).

So the seasons will now be SUMMER(Terms 1 and 4) and WINTER(Terms 2 and 3). This means there is a change of age groups for some players and an 18 AND UNDER division has been added to give those players a chance to play some basketball as there will be no seniors at this stage. These developments we see as being most positive for the College sporting programme and will link in well with our other sports on offer in a summer and winter format and associated logistical considerations such as training and competition times. Age groups and the years of birth for each division will be as follows:

UNDER 10(2012/2013), UNDER 12(2010/2011), UNDER 14(2008/2009), UNDER 16(2006/2007) AND “18 AND UNDER”(2003/2004/2005)

It is very important at this stage to please consider all of this over the holidays and decide whether you want to play or not and discuss this with parents and/or friends.

If you are a Senior School student and WILL be playing or may want to coach a team also, please fill in and return the attached ‘Expression of Interest form’ ASAP and by Friday 16th October at the latest.  Miss Brabham will contact the Junior School students when Term 4 starts about playing.

If you have any questions, please email myself or Miss Brabham if at the Junior School.
