Xenica Community Report

Term 3, 2020

The Xenica community have been very busy again this term during remote learning. Students have been using their creativity, working independently, participating in video meets and having fun dressing up on Crazy Hair day and Superhero day! We would like to thank all of the parents and guardians for helping out at home during these challenging times.

Our Learning

LITERACY

In Literacy this term, we have been completing a book study on the Roald Dahl book 'Matilda'. We have been exploring character development as well and using reading comprehension strategies to further develop our understanding of the story. For visualising, students had to visualise what Bruce Bogtrotter’s cake looked like from how it was being described in the book. In Writing, we have been looking into information reports, we have been gathering facts about Australian animals and presenting them as a report so that it is informative to our readers.

NUMERACY

In Numeracy this term, Xenica students have been working hard on multiplication and division strategies. We have been using the CUBES strategy to solve worded problems. We have represented multiplication using concrete materials we can find at home like Lego.

We have focused on applying our understanding of multiplication to calculate the area of rectangles and squares and have made detailed pictures of robots on grid paper.

INQUIRY

In Inquiry we have been learning about biodiversity and the role of each animal within a food chain. We have also explored how living things have different life cycles and depend on each other and the environment to survive.

SEL

This term in SEL we have been completing a diary page to reflect on our day. Our focus has been to express how we are feeling each day and to take some time for ourselves. We have been setting goals for the day, writing about things we are grateful for and our favourite songs and how they make us feel.

Important notes to remember:

  • Don't forget to complete your online attendance each day.
  • Please make sure you attend all scheduled video calls with your teachers.

We hope you all have a relaxing and safe holiday. We look forward to seeing you back online at the start of next term!

Kind Regards,

Kathryn, Trent, Emma, Paul and Rebecca
