Across the Principal's Desk

by Karl Schier

As strange and trying as this year has been, it is still surprising to find that we are already three quarters of the way through 2020. I’m sure some people might be thinking along the lines of… ‘bring on 2021’… but we still have a significant term to work through after the break, which we are hoping will also be a bit more settled.

Our Year 12's have demonstrated resilience in persevering with their studies in far less than ideal circumstances for their final year of school – however, they have stuck with it and we congratulate them for that! The next step for them is to complete their studies over the coming weeks and then prepare for the exam period. They will sit the General Achievement Test (GAT) in the first week of next term, which will resemble the structure of the exams that will follow later in the year. We wish them well in continuing with their hard work as they draw closer to the finish line. Year 12 is not an easy year under the best conditions, but it has been even more challenging this year! It’s also important to acknowledge their teachers for the hard work (and worry) they put in to support the learning for our students, as well as the families at home who have ridden the wave with them this year.

Thank you to our staff and students for all of their work and commitment with Remote and Flexible Learning. Everyone will have experienced it in different ways – some enjoying it and some finding it challenging – regardless, there has been a lot of learning and we appreciate the effort that has been put in to make it work to the best of our abilities. We will communicate via Compass and our Website what the first two weeks of next term will look like in relation to returning to school. We will follow the direction of the Department of Education and Training, which has guidelines for different school settings.

I encourage everyone who is able to take a break over the school holiday period to enjoy some rest, relaxation and adventure. It has been reassuring to have some of the restrictions modified in rural Victoria and I’m sure this will be appreciated by everyone.

Stay well and safe.
