VICTORIAN CODING CHALLENGE

During lockdown, thirteen students across Years 8 to 10 opted to take part in the Victorian Coding Challenge. This two-part Coding challenge was produced by the Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV) in conjunction with Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria (DLTV). Aimed at students who have curious minds and want to extend their coding skills, the challenge opened up on 14 September.

The first round of the challenge is now over and four participants have chosen to take it to the next level! Here the students will compete at a State level and will be required to develop an open-ended “real world” coding application using Python. We wish the following students luck in the competition:

Cameron Lai - Year 9

Nam Tran - Year 10

Kevin Yu - Year 10

David Le - Year 10

GROK WEB COMPETITION

On Monday, 26 October the second Grok Web Competition of the year commenced. As usual, the competition will run for five weeks culminating in a Web Design Tournament, where students' original designs are put head-to-head in voting rounds. Students from all over the world take part in the final Design Tournament and in the past McKinnon has had a number of students appear well up the leaderboard. Let’s hope we can continue this good tradition.

The competition is running three levels - Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. If any student still wishes to take part in this competition, it is not too late. Just email Mrs Munro on mus@mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au
