MUSIC NEWS

We welcome back the Years 8 - 10 students this term and look forward to working with the students in the Music Department.

CURRENT RESTRICTIONS

Thank you to all parents for their ongoing support of the Music Department as we navigated our way through the changing conditions for air-based instruments (brass, woodwind and voice).

As of late on Wednesday 28 October all schools across the state are able to teach these instruments outside in small groups. This is an exciting time for all of the musicians. This also should apply to lessons external to the school as well (dependent upon council requirements).

Percussion and String students throughout the whole school are not affected by these restrictions and lessons and ensembles will continue with appropriate distancing measures taking place.

VCE EXAMS

VCE Music Performance and Music Investigation performance exams are now underway and we have been really pleased to hear from the students about the success of their performances.  Well done!

GIGS ON THE SCREEN

Gigs on the Screen continues.  Should anyone be interested in taking part, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Papworth (ppw@mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au) for information on how to complete the videos.

Please welcome to the stage Year 12 student Maskit Matityahu performing Heather.  Congratulations.

CLOSING HOURS FOR MUSIC CENTRE

Please note that the store room and Music Centre will be locked each and every day at 4:30pm.

SYMPHONIC WIND FAREWELLS YEAR 12s

Senior students returned to campus for one partially-on site rehearsal, which was the final session for Year 12 members of the ensemble. While we could not actually play most instruments during the session, we could (and did!) recognise and celebrate the contribution of Year 12s who have maintained their commitment to the music program over many years at McKinnon.

They were Band Captain Sean Malton, who has played three different instruments in different pieces this year (B-flat clarinet, E-flat clarinet and Flute); Jeffrey Chum, trumpet; William Xiang, piano; and Arjun Alvares, trumpet.

We thank these students for sharing so much wonderful music-making with us over the years, and wish them all the best for their upcoming assessments.
