The University of Melbourne is excited to announce two new scholarships for students commencing in the Bachelor of Science from 2022.

 

SCIENCE ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP 

The Science Achievement Scholarship is awarded to high-achieving domestic undergraduate students who intend to undertake the Bachelor of Science with a major in the areas of chemistry, mathematics or physics. 

 

Who:     Commencing ‘Bachelor of Science’ students 

 

Benefits: 

  • $10,000 over the duration of the degree 
  • Five scholarships awarded per year Eligibility: To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to: 
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen 
  • Have not previously undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding Year 12 Extension Program subjects) 
  • Have applied for the Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne via VTAC, for commencement in the year following completion of Australian Year 12 or the International Baccalaureate in or outside Australia 
  • Achieve a minimum ATAR of 98.00, and a VCE study score of at least 40 in one of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (or equivalent). 

Application and selection: 

  • Students who meet the eligibility criteria will be automatically considered, there is no separate application process 
  • Candidates are ranked based on their ATAR and their VCE study score in one or more of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (or equivalent), with preference given to those with the highest study score in any one of the listed subjects.

SCIENCE ACCESS SCHOLARSHIP 

This scholarship is offered to domestic students who’ve experienced disadvantaged circumstances and intend to undertake the Bachelor of Science and pursue a major in the areas of chemistry, mathematics or physics. 

 

Who:     Commencing ‘Bachelor of Science’ students 

 

Benefits: 

  • $5,000 per year for three years 
  • 10 scholarships awarded per year Eligibility: To be eligible for this scholarship, students need to: 
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen 
  • Have not previously undertaken any tertiary studies (excluding Year 12 Extension Program subjects) 
  • Have applied for the Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne via VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) for commencement in the year following completion of Year 12 or International Baccalaureate 
  • Meet the Access Melbourne entry requirements for the University of Melbourne course nominated in their VTAC application. 

Application and selection: 

  • This scholarship is offered to eligible candidates who have the highest overall level of disadvantage based on the information provided in their VTAC Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) application and their ATAR.

HANSEN SCHOLARSHIP UPDATED BENEFITS

An exciting additional benefit has recently been approved by the University’s Academic Board, with Hansen Scholars who also meet the requirements for the Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship now guaranteed a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) in the professional Master's degree of their choice (subject to satisfying entry requirements) from 2022. 

 

Each year, the Hansen Scholarship is awarded to 20 exceptional students from around Australia based on their commitment to their academic success, resilience to adversity, and demonstrated commitment to helping and leading others. Full scholarship benefits include: 

  • A standard room for 48 weeks each year, at no charge, for the standard full-time, three-year undergraduate degree at Little Hall residence in Lincoln Square South 
  • An allowance of $4000 per year for general living expenses for the standard full-time duration of the undergraduate degree
  • Full fee remission for asylum seekers who would otherwise have to pay international fees 
  • A one-time grant of up to $4000 to support an approved activity for the Scholar’s development such as an international exchange, an international subject, an internship or a similar role 
  • Access to a mentoring program, pastoral care, and development programs available to all students at Little Hall as well as a tailored program of mentoring and support exclusively for Hansen Scholars 
  • Priority access to graduate accommodation at Little Hall should the Hansen Scholar wish to pursue graduate studies at Melbourne after completing their undergraduate degree 
  • Next steps funding after completion of the scholar’s undergraduate degree (competitive process to apply for up to $10,000 for a short-term activity or up to $20,000 for further study) 
  • From 2022, students who meet the requirements for the Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship will receive the Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship Guaranteed Commonwealth Supported Place in one of the professional Master degrees for students who meet the prerequisite course and entry requirements for the Master degree.

  • 7 Feb 2022 – Applications open 
  • 9 March 2022 – Applications close 
  • 23 March 2022 – Academic reference deadline 
  • Early May 2022 – Selected applicants invited to progress to a video interview 
  • Mid-May 2022 – Closing date for video interviews
  • Mid-to late July 2022 – In-person interviews

KWONG LEE DOW YOUNG SCHOLARS PROGRAM CLASS OF 2023 

The University of Melbourne received over 1500 inspiring applications for the next cohort of students wanting to join the Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholar (KLDYS) Program. The University is pleased to announce that 520 successful students were selected from 420 schools across Victoria and border regions. 

 

Students and schools were notified of the outcome on Wednesday 17 November and the University will officially welcome the new KLDYS Class of 2023 at the online welcome event to be held on Wednesday 8 December. Congratulations to Gabriel Chen of Year 10 who was selected into the KLDYS Program representing Mazenod College

 

Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars receive invitations to exclusive University events and activities designed to expand their academic and personal horizons during VCE in 2022 and 2023. KLDY Scholars also are eligible for a guaranteed place at the University of Melbourne in the Bachelor of Arts, Biomedicine, Commerce, Design or Science provided that the Scholar: 

  • Achieves an ATAR of notional ATAR of 95.00 
  • Meets all course prerequisites. 
  • Enrol in the year immediately following Year 12 or secure an approved deferral.

Gallipoli Scholarships 2022 Applications open now

The Gallipoli Scholarships provide financial assistance to the most deserving and meritorious Australian applicants, commencing their first year of tertiary study at University or TAFE at Degree, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level, in the year of application. Applications are open now until 1 March 2022.

Free TAFE enrolments for in-demand jobs continue to grow and the scheme continues into 2022.

This is a fantastic opportunity for people to have tuition fees fully or heavily subsidised for courses that lead to in-demand jobs.

An AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety has an influential role that engages and interacts with students (4 years – adults) teaching skills and drills that provide knowledge, skill and understanding in water safety and swimming in pools and confined natural shallow water venues.

WORK EXPERIENCE 2022

Last week, Friday 19th November, all Year 9 parents (Year 10 2022) were emailed information regarding the Year 10 Work Experience program for 2022. This week, students have undertaken the ‘Safe at Work’ Occupational Health & Safety program as part of their work experience preparation. 

 

The Work Experience Information Pack 2022 was emailed to all parents and a hard copy was provided to all students during ‘Safe at Work’ training. If you require an additional copy, please refer to the hyperlink. A full copy is available on MAZCOM.

 

The original Work Experience Information Pack 2022 sent to parents via email, was missing the ‘Employer Guidelines for Work Experience 2022’. A copy of these guidelines is available from the hyperlink below. It is encouraged that all students print these guidelines and provide these to potential employers who may have further questions regarding work experience. Often the answer to their questions is within the guidelines, however, contact details for the College are also provided, should the employer have any further concerns.

 

Employer Guidelines for Work Experience 2022

Year 10 2022 students are encouraged to use the upcoming Christmas holidays to search for their work experience placement. Dates for work experience are Monday 20th – Friday 24th June 2022 (5-day placement).
