Principal's Message

I am trying not to use a cliché here; however I don’t think there are other words… what a year!

It was a year like no other, with mounting pressures on teaching and learning because of the significant challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. We were proud to see our students managing their unique circumstances to ensure their learning continued during this time. We learnt about the different ways that technology can enhance learning and know that many lessons from remote learning will enhance our practices in the future.

We were delighted to hold our Rugby Academy launch this month with guests from Rugby Vic, Melbourne Rebels and Melton Warriors extending their support. We are proud to be partnering with Academy Movement to deliver the 2022 program through Year 9 and Year 10 Selective subjects, with senior students completing Certificate III in Sport and Recreation throughout the program in later years. Thank you to the staff who have led the development of this program and congratulations to the students who have been successful in their selection into the inaugural cohort of the Rugby Academy.

A huge elbow-bump to our year twelve students who have graduated with resilience and poise through the most disrupted senior years our State has seen in many decades. This week we were thrilled to celebrate alongside our senior students as they celebrated the release of ATAR results and VCE study scores. We were extremely proud to see this cohort maintain many of the high scores that we have seen in previous years. At the time of the release of results it’s important to acknowledge the need to keep the ATAR in perspective. To those students who were happy with their results, we extend a huge well done. You have earned every part of the score. For those who felt disappointed, it is important to remember that your score is not everything and does not define you as a person. We encourage all our students to take with them not only their academic learning from school, but the values, memories, and friendships that they have made. We are extremely proud of every one of you. Congratulations Class of 2021!

The pandemic also highlighted the importance of the partnership between the school and our parents, carers, and families. This partnership ensures that each of our students are supported to grow into young adults who contribute to, and flourish in, our community. To all our parents, carers, grandparents, elder siblings, and community members – thank you. Your service to our young people has undoubtedly the biggest impact on the way students think about their education and the way they approach their learning. Your impact has been widely apparent in the resilience and determination that we saw in our young people this year. Thank you for your support through this extremely challenging year. We are humbled and grateful for your partnership.

I’d also like to extend my thanks to the staff at MSC, including the College and Executive Leadership Teams, each of whom have worked tirelessly for their students on the coalface of the pandemic through the extended months of lockdown, as well as managing the significant challenges of transitioning back to onsite learning. The dedication of staff has made a significant difference to the lives of our young people. On behalf of the MSC community, I’d like to thank you.
