Careers & College Partnership News

Welcome To the GSSC Careers Team

We are delighted to have Susan Barr, another qualified Careers Practitioner, join our Careers Team. Susan joins us from Notre Dame College and is based at the McGuire campus with Ant Newham. She has already been very busy meeting with our senior students, assisting them with their plans for life after school.

GSSC Students On Site Visit

A small cohort of VCAL students were lucky enough this week to visit the site of the new school build, as part of their studies. See full report and pictures on the 'Site Tour' page in this week's newsletter.

Working for Victoria

Over twenty Greater Shepparton Secondary College students applied for Council's Working for Victoria job initiative on Monday! Thank you to Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project, Goulburn Murray LLEN, and Greater Shepparton City Council for their assistance in explaining the program to our students.

The Lighthouse staff were thrilled to work with students to unlock these new opportunities.

If you are looking to apply but need an extra-hand please reach out. For more information: https://greatershepparton.com.au/council/employment

Are you hoping to study Teaching OR Nursing (At Vic Uni)

Year 12 students applying for one of the following courses via VTAC will need to register for and sit the CASPer test by 8 December for most universities.

  • Undergraduate teaching courses
  • Bachelor of Nursing at Victoria University

It will cost $80 to register for the test and you can sit the test at home.

Note: if you are only applying for undergraduate teaching courses at Australian Catholic University, you can elect to complete the ACU Teacher Selector Statement instead of the CASPer test, https://bit.ly/3jwK7Og

About 80% of all job vacancies aren’t advertised, so it is crucial that you market yourself to businesses with an excellent resume and cover letter.

Make sure you tell as many people as possible that you are looking for work as often employers rely on ‘word of mouth’ to recruit for their positions.
