Production Week Looms Large

As we head into the final week of rehearsals and the opening show for Matilda the Musical, students involved in the production share their thoughts on what they have loved and learned by being in this year’s Senior School production.

More viewpoints from the cast, crew and musicians in the show will be published in the full-colour program, which will be on sale at the Capital Theatre before each show. The programs will be $10 each, and we encourage cash sales, as EFTPOS facilities will be limited.

Lucy Mitchell

Makeup

Lucy recommends asking ‘clients’ about themselves because, in this role, she has discovered that people love to talk about themselves.

Jared Hodges

Technician

Jared sees the technical side of a show as integral to the production and enjoys being part of the production team and having a key responsibility in producing a show. He says that audio technicians need to be focused and ready to deal with any issues that arise.

Austin Haywood

Technician

Austin says that technicians need to have a good ear for interference because often it is barely noticeable until the actors are on stage. People skills are also useful, especially when dealing with nervous actors.

Ben Greenall

Chorus

To be part of the Matilda cast, you need to be punctual and have a good work ethic. It is useful to be fit, and you need to want to do the work and put in the effort and the time.

Emma Hines

Chorus

To be a chorus member, you have to have a long concentration span, and you need to learn choreography off by heart. The Matilda Production has been such a great experience for me, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Lucie Griffin

Mrs Wormwood

Lucie says that Matilda the Musical is youthful and fun, that it exudes energy, which leaves you feeling happy and inspired. She says that if you are new to acting, a Girton production is a great way to develop your skills and to boost your confidence.

Will Hamilton

Bruce Bogtrotter

Will plays the role of Bruce Bogtrotter, who he describes as a rotund child who particularly enjoys chocolate cake - or is forced to. Will says he has ‘savoured’ his experience in the production because of all the new connections that he has made throughout the school.

Lucy Hall

Matilda

Lucy says that being a part of the Matilda cast is like being part of another family. She says everyone is kind and welcoming. She recommends taking part in a Girton production to everyone, even if they have no performing background because you are bound for a great time and awesome new people.

Darcy Thomas

Tommy

Darcy loves playing Tommy because he gets to muck around on stage and have fun. He says he has enjoyed every single bit about being a part of the Matilda production, and there has not been one bad thing about it. He says that as a Year 7 student, he was not expecting to get a main role, but here he is and he is delighted.

Harry Brakha

Lead ensemble

I believe that to be a contributing member of the production, it is vital to be committed to rehearsals and to be able to continue to push yourself when the energy is low. I also think it’s extremely important to have a friendly personality when working with the cast and to have a spontaneous attitude if elements in the choreography or acting have to be changed.

Lucy Mills

Lead ensemble

Learning trapeze has been enjoyable, especially applying my skills in dance to the trapeze has been an incredible and exhilarating experience. I also love being involved with the mass numbers in the show. Songs like ‘school song’, which are so cleverly composed and choreographed are a pleasure to perform.

SiChi Tong

Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone, Piano

SiChi says she enjoys playing alongside a performing cast, enhancing the overall experience for the audience. She says she now appreciates the amount of effort it takes to compile a theatrical production, and that live music enhances the overall performance by increasing its authenticity.

Daniel Worthington

Cello

According to Daniel, live music in a stage production creates the mood and atmosphere for what happens on stage, helping the audience connect with the performance. He says that students should take the opportunity to be a part of a Girton production because it is fun and enables you to collaborate with a group of similar people.
