Compulsory Data Collection for Australian Schools

This article serves as notification of the new Federal Government requirement to notify parents of data that is collected from schools under the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) on School Students with Disability.

The NCCD is an annual collection of information about Australian school students with disability. The NCCD enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be best supported at school.

The data that Girton must provide to the Federal Government is de-identified, i.e., all data is submitted without student names.

Figures that reflect the number of children in a school with a recognised disability, or who are assessed by the School as having a disability, must be provided to the Government by all Australian schools.

Funding is then provided by the Government according to the level of adjustments that need to be made for each child, in line with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005. The intent is for Australian students with disability to be able to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers.

This notification is consistent with Australian Privacy Principle 5 —notification of the collection of personal information of the Privacy Act 1988. Further information is available here: https://docs.education.gov.au/system/files/doc/other/2019-05-13_information_notice.pdf
