Argus Community
The Argus community have started to develop their music vocabulary to identify the different sounds they hear. They have applied their voice to sing, improvised movement to dance and played instruments to match pitch, dynamics and tempo. Students learned songs such as, 'A Ram, Sam, Sam' and performed sound stories such as 'The Hare and the Tortoise' to express the music elements.
Xenica Community
In Xenica Community, students have been experimenting with the music elements to create music. They rehearsed the song, 'My Bonnie' and demonstrated singing, dancing and playing musical instruments to perform the contrasting sections of the song. Students also continued to explore their ideas when listening and responding to different songs. They expressed their feelings, imaginative ideas and different sounds they heard to demonstrate an understanding of mood in music.
Achilles Community
In the Achilles community, students explored the music element of tone colour to express short and long sounds. They improvised movement in the space, applied their voice to sing a song called, 'In a Dark Wood' and played instruments to demonstrate the long and short sounds in the song. Students learned to read and record their own graphic notation to express tone colour.
Ulysses Community
In the Ulysses community, students focused on learning the style of Reggae music. They composed and performed their own son in that style. Students developed new rhythm patterns and used body percussion, singing and played musical instruments to different Reggae songs. they researched the style and presented their work on a poster using iPads. They also researched their own favourite style to develop an understanding of different musical cultures.
