SOI Students Meet With Architect Ken Woodman

In the School of Innovation, Year 8 students have been exploring the statement, “Built structures meet the needs of the occupants.” Architect of St Anne’s College, Ken Woodman, kindly gave some of his time to meet with the Year 8s and talk to them about what this statement means to him.

Student Mia Borzillo wrote: “When Ken came to St Anne's to explain the buildings, I was really excited because I had a few questions I needed to ask him. Locky (Tremellen) and I introduced Ken and we started asking some questions that people had written for him. The questions everyone asked were very inquisitive questions. Ken answered the questions in a way that made it easy for us to understand. He talked to us about how he made sure the windows in the building bring in more light during winter but less in summer because he doesn't want it to be burning hot. Ken also talked about Stage 2 having real trees inside the buildings to create a sense of peace and calm for the students. He talked to us about the architecture of the building, why he did what he did, how he designed it, what inspired him, and how long it took. The language he used helped us to better understand how the buildings in the next stage are going to look. We would like to thank Ken for coming and explaining the buildings to us and answering some burning questions we had.”

Stewards Of Our Environment

Landowners Donna and Jim Winter-Irving and video producer Shae visited St Anne's College recently to share a video that the 2019 Year 7 students helped to create for Landcare. The video, which shows the five-step land health check process, was made with the assistance of the students when they visited the Winter-Irving farm near Nagambie last October. Learning to care for the land connects to one of our St Anne's College graduate outcomes: Stewards of our environment.
