St Anne's College Board

Message from Annette Jakob
St Anne's College Board celebrated its first meeting for the 2020 College year last Thursday 13th February.
We are so grateful and encouraged by the generosity of the parents, parish, Catholic Education Office and College staff representation and the support and wisdom that is shared through the College advisory board.
Throughout our gathering we reflect on the Board's purpose as being an advisory board in nature. This means that we provide steering, guidance and consultation to the College on its direction. We were pleased to share an update on the increase to staffing support for the new year which now includes additional teaching and learning support staff, a Well-Being Support Officer and the new role of Business Manager. All of these roles, in addition to the amazing team that were at the college in 2019, continue to support St Anne's exciting and joyous future growth plans.
During late 2019 the Board ,along with students and staff, commenced formulating the St Anne's College Improvement Plan. It was a great opportunity to invest some more time at Board level reviewing the progress of its development and to start exploring ways and actions in which we can contribute to achieving the aspirations of the plan.
An important component of our Board meeting is our reflection on Catholic Identity. On Thursday we reflected on the theme of "Parents as the primary educators" and looked at Declaration on Christian Education #3 - Vatican Council II 1965. Much discussion and reflection was had around the fact that despite this declaration now being 55 years old, after stripping back some of the literal sharpness of the generational and society changes over that journey of time, the thread that we as parents are the first and most important educators of our children is ongoing.
We're excited and so grateful to the many parents and Board members who have shared their desire to help with fundraising to support the College and in particular around expanding our playground equipment. We are in the midst of forming a pilot focus group for this, and we are sure more will be shared in the very near future, including invitation for expressions of interest to assist and be a part of this group.
Lastly, throughout 2020 St Anne's College will complete a full school review which is a periodic requirement for our school registration. One important aspect of this from the College Board point of view will be a review of the College Board Constitution. Over coming meetings, and in consultation with the Catholic Education Office - Sandhurst, we will be reviewing the draft constitution and having it ratified.
We are looking forward to another exciting year for St Anne's College Board.
