Year 8 Sleepover

Year 8 Sleep Over

The year eights had the opportunity to sign up for a ‘school sleep over’. It was an educational night filled with lots of fun. The children that went had the experience of a lifetime, we experienced being homeless. At the start of the night we did our homework, as it’s an important part of a students schooling, then we went and made our dinner which was pumpkin soup. We then went back to the drama centre where; we didn’t know what was going to happen next but all of a sudden Miss Christian takes all of our stuff. She then says we all need to sit in a circle in the middle of the Drama centre, explaining that we need to buy our stuff back. That as a part of being homeless we need to sacrifice things. We had $90 dollars to spend on what ever we wanted. However, $90 dollars wasn’t a large amount of money and we really had to decide on what we wanted you could use your money effectively and buy great bedding or you could be trapped into buying a soft drink or lollies which was a representation of drugs. A lot of people chose the soft drink and lollies. We then watched a documentary on YouTube called the Oasis. It was about homeless people in very unfortunate situations. These people were living in terrible environments and that’s what the teachers wanted to show us, not all those people had a choice off homeless a lot of them were abused or unwanted. I believe everybody should experience that evening at least once in their life, to have an understanding on what those people really have to deal with in their lives.
