On the 1st of August, 2019, the Year 8 Greek class visited the Hellenic Museum of Melbourne. As a class we participated in a variety of different activities relating to Greek vases and their role in ancient Greek history.  The program we partook in was called ‘Vital Vases’ in which we observed various replica ancient Greek vases. We were given a small tour of the museum and the history of each artefact. We also contributed in a hands on activity where students were challenged to create their own drawing of a vase by listening to a partner’s description of their observation of the vase. After the program ended we visited the Greek precinct on Lonsdale St. Overall, it was an enjoyable excursion and experience for all of us.

On the 1st of August, our year 8 Greek class participated in an educational excursion at the Hellenic Museum in the city. Attending this exceptional event was highly entertaining for each and every one of us. It was a remarkable experience as we got to learn about the ancient times and the use of vases. We took part in hands on and collaborative activities throughout the program. This was an impressively organised excursion and we would all love to go again.       -Eleni Panitsa 8H

Mrs. Ricco told us some interesting facts about what took place before the Hellenic museum was built. The building used to be a mint factory where they created coins . Evelin, our tour guide, took us in a well secured room, and presented the types of architecture that was built before vases were even created. We learnt some interesting facts about the vases in Ancient Greece. The tour ended with drawing ancient pots and more. Hailey-Maree’s favorite part was learning how olive trees actually originating from Persia and that the Greeks knew how to turn the olives into oils and perfume. Katerina’s funny moments when Hailey fell but all was good.
