Indigenous Literacy Foundation Book Swap

Great Book Swap and Cake Stall by Deane House

The Great Book Swap (GBS) and Cake stall to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) were a huge success. This year we had a fantastic opportunity for a whole School community, including Junior School (Springwood and Wentworth Falls campuses) and Senior School students, to attend the NAIDOC assembly followed by visiting the Book Stall and Cake Stall.

Over the course of last week, students and staff came together in M7 with books that they had loved, and could bear to part with. Students all walked away with something wonderful to read.

The GBS and cakes donated by the kind-hearted parents of Deane House together raised $ 775 in direct donations whilst the 2022 BMGS website for ILF raised in excess of $190, which will provide books and literacy programs to remote Indigenous communities where they are needed most.

If you missed this opportunity, you will be still able to donate online until end of this year. Please see the below link and share with friends and family to help raise funds.

Our thanks for the generosity and enthusiasm of students, staff and parents.

Special thanks are extended to Deane House parents who donated very delicious cakes and slices. Sidney Edwards (Year 10) is to be commended for his role as ILF Ambassador for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, leading a team of Deane House students who ran the event. Year 10 Deane Tutor group and Connor Secker are admirable for their support. Year 11 Japanese students (Izabella, Sophia, Ava and Jonathan) sorted out huge amount of books into the category, which is greatly appreciated.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Smith, Mr. Weibye, Mrs. Van Gelderen, Ms. Wells, Mr. Cooney and Maintenance team for all hard work and support for making this all come together. Thank you to Mr. Laffin and Mrs. Newton to make possible for multiple campuses students to be included, and Mrs. Gerrard for bringing her Stage 2 class up from Springwood campus.

Many thanks to all of you who took part. I hope you all enjoy your reading, content in the knowledge that you have supported a most worthy cause.
