Junior School

Junior School students at the Springwood campus enjoyed meeting Healthy Harold this week, as the “Life Ed” van visited the school. As usual there were mixed thoughts about whether Healthy Harold is really, truly a giraffe OR … ahem …. a puppet. Children definitely debated this on Monday and Tuesday and had lots of positive things to say about the learning that happened there.

The PDHPE curriculum was also the focus for Stage 3 students at Wentworth Falls this week. Students had a visiting speaker come from Interrelate, which is an excellent programme designed for students of this age to learn about change and reproduction. The presenter is amazing, delivering this content in a brilliant, informative way with just enough humour to help the students feel settled and comfortable. I encourage parents who’d like follow up materials to visit the Interrelate website as they sell some excellent books for grown ups and kids.

Our students are preparing for an up and coming concert, showcasing the musical talent of students across the whole of our school. ‘Vita Musicale’ will be taking place on Friday August 19 and our students will be involved in singing as an entire Junior School, joining the Senior Students for another piece and many ensembles and bands will be featured from the Junior School, alongside their Senior School peers. This is going to be a wonderful event and one that I am very much looking forward to. I wonder if Mrs Lewis would mind if I joined the choir too?

A HUGE congratulations to Noah Erne from Stage 3 Firetails, who received his Headmasters Award and badge this week. This is a huge achievement and Noah is deserving, as he is a student who consistently proves himself as a learner, a leader, a friend and an all-round outstanding member of our Junior School community.

Basketball - Term 3, Week 3

The BMGS Swish had a bye.

On Tuesday, 2nd August, the BMGS Stars showed exactly what playing a team sport is about. This week we had six players so we were able to sub on and off, to give everyone a fair go. Our first game was a great opportunity for the team to practise their layups as their opposition was a bit shorter in height, so we had more opportunities at goals. All of the players managed to get in a number of goals and they continued to pass the ball around until everyone on the team got at least one goal in. They did this off their own bat, without having to be told to start applying ‘mercy’ rules. I was very proud of them. Again, the team walked away with two wins and lots of smiles all round.

Also a reminder – Your parents were sent an email this week to talk about whether or not students in the Primary would like to play the most awesome game ever and join in the Springwood Scorchers Summer Basketball Competition. Mrs Gerrard would like to see as many teams as possible enter. If you have any questions about the competition, chat to the team members who already play in it or ask Mrs Gerrard, she will be happy to answer any questions. The registration note will be distributed in about Week 8.
